Sorry Dave, I completely glossed over your mods. Nevermind the comments about watching knock on the PFC then.

but do still pay attention to the idea of watching where you regularly get gas. Frequently used stations are still better than little holes-in-the-wall in my opinion.

I agree, the best bet is high volume, name brand stations. Ones that have to refill constantly would be more reliable, as far as gas quality.

Is that country called California? J/k..

Our prices are catching up with you guys over there. I filled up with 93 today and it was $3.70 gallon... I've heard Cali 91 octane is even more but I dunno.

1. I don't like to include my signature in every post - it seems redundant.

2. Yeah, I do. Even in my Focus I try to use well-trafficked stations. Too many stories of water in the gas, etc., from holes-in-the-wall... Not that using a popular station is any guarantee against such things...

In Cali, 91 octane is $4/gallon

There has to be some convenient & inexpensive way to test the gas you get for octane level. I'm not a chemist, but I'm sure someone out there has some ideas

Otherwise, keep the boost down and temps in check until you've taken other measures to mitigate the possibility of bad gas (mix higher octane fuel, use AI system)

I have noticed, for a number of reasons (one of which may be increased amounts of "ethanol" in gas) that I've had to add some fuel (almost 4%!) to maintain a consistent AFR under full boost (running PFC) since I tuned my car last December. My knock readings under boost haven't changed much, if at all, since then.... FWIW, I'm running stock turbos non sequential at 11 & 13 psi boost. Knocks less than 70 (but I'm 99% sure I have a noisy engine, because I should have already blown it up if it wasn't )

It's really nice to see shell on the top tier gas sales... Since I've owned my FD (past year), all I fill up with is Shell V-power... definitely a good choice.

Well, I'm on my 1st tank of Shell V-power. It might be my imagination, but the engine seems smoother and more responsive on this than it was on the Sunoco Ultra that I always ran before. I'll report more after I run it longer.

Just filled the tank for the 1st time after the previous fill-up on V-Power. In combination city/freeway driving with several full-throttle bursts, I got almost exactly 20 mpg (289 miles, 14.4 gallons).

That's the best I've done in local driving for years. With the Sunoco Ultra I was getting a max of 18 mpg under similar conditions.

E85

Dave

Given all the corn fields in North/Eastern Oil, I'm surprised it's not state law that you have to run straight E85 - but then you'd have to screw up that nice STOCK FD of yours.

Good luck this season - I miss Mid Ohio and Road America - there just ain't tracks like that down in Texas...

I mixed 2.5 gals of E85 in with my 20 gals of 91 Premium this time - just trying to pass emissions - it worked.. just barely.

Enjoy your summer. (Don't miss the Detroit winter!)

Yup, last time i put gas i was at 1/4 tank exactly. And i put 30 bucks which translated to a little over 8 gallons.

Since then i have put 144.8 miles and im at 1/4 tank exactly again.

Using some estimated math, thats about 18.1MPG combined both city/highway/idling.

Not to mention on each trip, i boost once or twice (especially when i have to merge onto the highway or just to play around a bit).

Not bad at all.

You know this already, but trying to figure out mileage this way is little more than a WAG. Fill up, drive, fill up again, divide miles driven by gallons put in the tank. For even more accuracy, repeat a few times.

Yeah i know. I dont really care about gas mileage, it was just something i calculated because of this thread.

Last time i actually FILLED up my FD was 3 years ago when i went to the track LOL.

Now i just do 20 bucks, well 30 now cause of rising gas prices. I dont fill up because for one, i hardly drive the car (i always want fresh gas in there) and 2, its extra weight for nothing. Our cars hold what? 20.1 gallons? I just leave like 8-10 gallons in the tank at all times.

Good point. I was amazed when I realized how large the tanks were. Lots of weight to drag around.
