question on knock sensor

question on knock sensor
i have had a check engine light coming on at high rpms, I pulled the code today and noticed it was the knock sensor. when this light appears, does this mean that the knock sensor is picking up detonation, or does this mean that the sensor is going bad?

Got the same problem but it stays on all the time and I got a new engine put in recently Can't figure it out...
