my crank signal has an inconsistency that seems to occur at random times....

the entire thing is depicted pretty well in this picture with the random thingi in red.... please take a look and tell me what you think?

recommend you contact Pluto...I have read he has used an oscilloscope to diagnose CAS problems..believe he's an EE...as well as one of the most respected tuners of rotaries

You might check the crank signal sensor to be sure that it has no metal shavings stuck to its center. The transducer is nothing more than a magnet surrounded by coils of wire. If metal shavings, a small washer, or a similar item were to get caught in the gap between the transducer and trigger wheel, it might result in the strange waveforms you’re experiencing. To be occasional I suppose it would have to be moving around because of vibration, airflow, contact, etc.

Another less likely possibility could be an intermittent short or break in the coil wires. Again vibration or heat could be a clue. You could see the same effect if the wiring between the sensor and the ECU was failing.
