Question on CAT converter
Question on CAT converter
hey guys, igot a question about my cat converter, i was warming up the car and ive notice that my exhaust flow is diffrent.. i look underneath the car and saw the CATalytic conv cherry red ( burning) is this normal for cat to look like this on normal driving temp of the car? is there a good way i could if my cat is good or not? is this safe? thanks
This is not usually a sign of a bad CAT. A red-hot CAT during normal (not full throttle) driving is usually a sign of excess un-burned fuel entering the CAT. The CAT can actually get hot enough to destroy itself or start a fire.
DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR MORE THAN A FEW YARDS UNTIL YOU'VE FIGURED THIS OUT AND REPAIRED IT.
Something (stuck injectors, etc.) is causing excess unburned fuel to exit the engine!

clogged ..done ..kaput..shot..fried..no good..crapped out..and no ..it's not normal..you can replace with stock or go high flo..or test pipe or be "inventive" and hollow it out..fix it .it's unsafe to drive ..you will damage the engine with a clogged converter..MY $.02..
well ive check the injectors / fuel pump / filter/ readings and also check all electrical misc like coil sparksplug / wires im getting good reading, what else i could check for the gas not to flow like this?
i just took out the cat converter and tried to look if there was any damage but coudnt see anything due to the outlet pipes on both ends on angle.. i tried to shake the damb thing and no rattles.. is there a way to test this converter? do you guys have the same CAT converter like mine? can someone send me a picture of your exhaust set-up.( i did a research but cant find one) by the way my cat converter is OEM (stock). thanks guys.

You can just see down the one end with a flashlight. If you shake it good and nothing comes loose, it's probably just fine. Cats clog because the main matrix element breaks loose and wedges shut in the housing.
