Question about XTD Clutch....

I just installed the XTD clutch kit from ebay along with my rebuilt engine etc...

Here is the thing... When it idles, it's fine, when i just clutch in, it's fine.
But, when i clutch in, put it in gear, it starts to give "scratching sound". It's like the 6 puck is rubbing against the flywheel or pressure plate, not sure.

Has anybody had this problem? I mean i'm gonna have to wait till everything breaks in but still. Also the pedal is really soft... is it supposed to be soft?

By the way the flywheel has been resurfaced.

thanks

I think that if it were a release bearing, it would sound always when clutched in, not just when putting in gear. Could this just be a clutch breaking in or something... I don't know.

So nobody ever head a problem with a 6 puck sprung clutch that starts to kind of scratch when it's being ingaged? It just feels like the clutch disc itself is scratching on to the either pressure plate or flywheel when i'm trying to start moving from first gear. It only happens in 1st gear and only when i'm starting from a dead stop.

I never had 6 puck so maybe this is the way it feels. If i give it more throttle, like up to 2500 or 3 then it's a lot less.

What gives? Any ideas? I know i read in one thread that someone had a same problem and the shop just adjusted the pedal height and it went away. But i though hydraulic clutch pedals cannot be adjusted. Am i Wrong?

well I adjusted the pedal and it's still there. I even bled the system, still scratchy. I don't know what to do here anymore. I don't want to take the tranny down and check everything and not find nothing. The damn thing feels like the clutch is scratching for a second before it engages... it also happens when i downshift to 2nd.

i have the same clutch and havent had problems, could be you just need to break it in. Also remember the 6puck is a little harsh and from my experience i had to change the way i feather it.

That's what i was just told also that maybe i just have to break it in. I already got 265 miles on the engine and clutch.... How much longer will i have to break it in?

I also noticed that if i rev it a little higher and drop it, i have no problems. So maybe this is the way this thing is supposed to be...

What are the sympthoms of bad pilot bearing? I know i have no problems putting it in gear, and the only problem so far is the scratching noise.

so i took the tranny out and i found out that the seal for the pilot bearing is all broken. The pilot bearing itself looked a little out of place... kind of not looking straight or something. I don't know if that was really the problem to my scratching noise i was getting.

I already have the pilot bearing that came with the kit, but stupid seal i had to order from auto zone. It'll be here on friday.

Another thing... I rented that tool from advance auto parts for removing the pilot bearing. I got it half way out, and the damn pilot bearing tool broke Hopefully i don't get charged for breaking it. I'll have to rent another one on friday from different store.

So the big question is, could the busted pilot bearing seal and maybe out of place bearing itself cause the problem i was having? Everything else looked ok, the fork is fine, the release bearing is new, the clutch and the pressure plate are fine and the main shaft for the tranny looks good.

Thanks

Just replaced the Pilot Bearing and the seal... the scratchy sound is gone. It feels great and it runs great.

i've used that clutch on 2 or 3 cars. it's the smoothest engaging 6 puck i've ever used.
