Question about trailing link torque.

So, I'm putting my beast back together and do not have an answer to what seems like a simple question:

At what point do you torque the front bolt of the trailing link?

IF you torque it with the suspension unloaded it holds the bushing and it twists as the car returns to ride height.

On the RX-8 some of these bolts have to be tightened at ride height...

I searched on the forum and did not have any luck, and the FSM lists a torque spec and not much else.

Any help would be appreciated!

I recently replaced my rear pillow ball bushings and before I tightened any bolts, I positioned a jack under the knuckle and preloaded the suspension. Its a good practice to do as some bolts may have a habit of loosening as suspension loads or unloads. I double checked all my bolts that I tightened today and all were still tight. The purpose of preloading some of the Rx8 components [just did exactly this today on my friends] is because the bushings are seated at a certain ride height and compress when the bolt is tightened. It is segmented to allow for small up and down movement but to also provide resistance. To preload this, especially on lowered cars, is important because it will not overstress the bushings by pushing them past their segmented allowable movement. This allows for a more comfortable ride and even a lower stance on the Rx8.

^Exactly the advice I was looking for. I had assumed that it would be near ride height

Also glad to see someone else who knew what I was talking about on the RX-8.

Thanks!
