Unhappy Question about short throw shifters

I have/had/has a B&M short throw shifter which i consider to be the best i have ever used on any car i have ever driven. Well i am slowly getting my 7 back together again and i either have "misplaced" my shifter or someone has "misplaced" my shifter for me. either way i go on B&M's site and looks as if they no longer make the shifter (sad). SOOOOO am i wrong ? or if they no longer make (if i cannot find mine or find a used one) WTF can i purchase that will exactly simulate the speed and accuracy like a B&M? (if you have never driven a 7 with a B&M shifter you cannot compare) so help me out here guys cause the longer i look through my boxes of parts the less and less i have hope in finding it :-( . Thank you for any input.

Get a C's or a mazdaspeed short shifter. Much better in my opinion.

And yes i've had B&M before.

I basically had every single shifter you can think of besides the RE lol.

Opps. Probably a good rule to have. I found it. Thanks Fortune.

Reading through a lot of reviews it seems that some guys are really concerned with vibration and noise and some quality/speed of the shifter. C's no longer in business heck they have been out of business for years last i heard. so wonder how the "replica" (hate replicas) rates to the b&m or ever the RE Amemiya

Honestly I didn't notice a significant difference in quality between a real b&m vs a replica. But im sure that comparison is opinionated depending on each person. Only thing I can say is materal is similar, the replica gave crappy bolts and had no box. It was just the shifter, its crappy bolts in a bag, in a box. And there is no stamping on it.

I've got to use some short shifters. The ones that stand out are the C's and the mazdatrix (mazdaspeed replica?). The mazdatrix IMO is the best and its still easy to find. Its very notchy but doesn't require alot of effort. I love mine. The throws are also significantly shorter. For the one I got, the height of the **** is around stock but the throws are so short it doesn't even matter.

I believe the MS and the C's are basically the same anyway IIRC.

But yes i have had my share of short shifters and i ended up with the mazdaspeed. Its not as smooth as say a modern honda manual or even a modern bmw but its very precise and solid. Doesnt feel like you're gonna break the shaft when you shift and you know you're going into the correct gear each time. No play or nothing, very solid feel.

FWIW I purchased the Ralco RZ brand B&M replica. I have yet to install it but the quality looks good. Very nice casting, solid hardware, and comes with a nice aluminum ball shift ****. Other than the blue anodizing, I can't imagine the B&M being much nicer (never seen a real one though). Just my experience, I will comment more once I install and use the thing, don't know when that will be though.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. My biggest concern I realized as I read was that with the stock shifted I remember having to back off the gas pedal a tad to engage 3rd gear, where as with the b&m full throttle I could slam third with ZERO hesitation. On occasions I would push the clutch in just enough it would almost shot itself from 2nd to 3rd gear on its own. As long as its not out of hand vibration doesn't really concern me (after all its my sports car not my luxury ride). Any and all feedback appreciated! I don't want to go cheap but don't want to be disappointed if I spend a lot on a shifted and it doesn't produce quailty results. Ill pay for what's good, just want to know its good lol

i used to have a real B&M shifter. i liked the feel but eventually it got "sloppy".

i now have a replica B&M that is billet steel instead of aluminum. been using it for at least 15k miles and it still feels great. i think because its steel and not aluminum it doesn't wear as quickly.

the best part is that i got it for only $20 when someone was selling a bunch of them at once.

you can still get this one for under $50 shipped if you look on ebay.

I have one of these steel ones if you want for $20. PM if interested. I switched to Mr. C's because I liked the feel better. Less notchy.

has anyone experienced more effort to put into gear after installing a short shifter?

I believe most aftermarket short shifter will require a bit extra effort to put into gear.

However, from my research I've found that the MS replica sold by rx7store.net is probably the smoothest of all short shifters.

Depending on which shifter you went with.

When i installed my b&m replica and b&m authentic, it takes more effort to put into gear all the time. Some people say you need to "break it in" which seems to help but you will always have that notchy feel.

When i installed my mazdaspeed, it was notchy right after i installed it. Drove the car and after the first drive, it was smooth. It has a solid feel, not notchy. Kinda hard to explain but there is a difference.

For what it's worth, I have a Gotham Racing shifter and have hated it since day one. It looks just like the B&M I used to have, but has a weird twisting sloppiness that my B&M shifter never had.

You do know that's not good for your car right? Do you side step the clutch on the street?

The FD B&M shifter (the real one) has the shortest throws of any shifter I've felt on any vehicle. Honestly, it's unnecessary for them to be that short. It's very easy to miss 3rd with the B&M.
