Question about series 6 housings

i recently bought series 6 housings brand new but when they finally came i spotted something and thought that i would have asked here... I have a series 8 rx7 and the housings that came off my car had the coolant hole on the side of the housing blocked off... The housings that recently bought new were also blocked off but with what looks like a small plug that was pressed in or something...if you look through the water passage you can still see the hole on the other side...but on my original housings that came off the car the hole looks like it was cast blocked from the factory and there isnt a hole inside in the water passage...could it be that i paid series 6 price for plugged series 5 housings?...or are there series 6 housings that came with the same pressed in "plug"....thanks

what you were sold then was a series 5 housing for a turbo II which got it's coolant for the turbo from those passages and someone installed freeze plugs. the housings are the same as the FD with that exception and one other: the legs at the bottom edge of the housings on the S6 have been milled to use silicone versus anaerobic sealer that the S4/5 used on the legs.

the chrome surface and spark plug timing are the same on S5/6 as well as the knock sensor location so it will be fine.

people these days have a tendency to lie about the series on various places like ebay because FD owners will pay more for rotor housings versus knowing that they came from an FC.

well it would be a first for me seeing the passages drilled through on any series 6 engine, mazda knew they weren't necessary so blocked them back up after the transition to the FD chassis and engine. either something is fishy or mazda made a few here and there with milled passages that they plugged off and marked as S6. as i mentioned though, if the legs don't have grooves cast into them then they sure sound like S5 housings to me.
