Question about ignition

So I have reason to believe my REW swapped FC needs an ignition upgrade, right now it’s on some old bosch coils and sometimes it has issues firing up and sounds like it’s misfiring until it warms up and won’t idle on its own. It’s on a Microtech and I just want to redo the whole system to be safe since it was sitting for a long time before I bought it, plugs are good, gas is good.

I saw good reviews here on the Twin power and stock FD coils but saw that was discontinued. What do you guys run today for coils? I’m looking to make 4-500 rwhp. I’m not tuned yet so I want the ignition to be fresh and sorted out before I take it to the tuner.

Let me know, I’m not too familiar with that sort of thing coming from RX-8s we just throw the LS coils or similar on lol, there’s a lot of options for these cars and I want to make sure I make a good investment.

You can run 400-500hp with stock coils and an ignition booster (like the twin power) I made 450hp 18psi no misfires on R7420 10.5 and 11 plugs.
However stock coils are still wasted spark unless u have wired for another coil, then run 4 coils like the IGN-1A coil that most seem to run.

Yeah I’m planning to go with the AEM smart coils. I couldn’t find any twin powers for a reasonable price or at all; and have heard good reviews locally from cars using the AEM smart coils that got tuned where I’m getting my car tuned at that are running well.

Slightly off topic, but all those symptoms are common when a coolant seal has/is failing. Probably not a bad idea to pressure test the system if you're seeing any amount of smoke on startup.

Yeah I have some upgrades to do to the cooling system first too, already changed the thermostat. Car sat for years before I picked it up, the radiator has a small leak from a port and when I release the pressure from my cap (I have one with a lever to release the pressure) the overflow bottle gets a lot of coolant and spills.

I tried bleeding the system and it helped but I still see some coolant coming out from the port when it runs. My ECU also has a red light and yellow light when it’s starting/running so I really need to look into it lol. I just don’t have a laptop/the software yet. For now I just don’t run the car much until I sort these things out.
