Question about housings

Ok gurus, I was finally able to break my engine down last Friday and I began cleaning things up over the weekend. I used purple power to clean the rotors (worked well after soaking), and I also used it to start cleaning the housings. The problem is this: One of the housings was left in the vat of purple power for about 6 or 7 hours. 3/4 of the housing now has a haze on the chrome. It doesn't feel much different than the portion of the housing that wasn't submerged, but there is definitely a difference. It almost feels smoother... After searching, I haven't read anything about purple power hurting the chrome, only the aluminum, which I am glad to say looks fine. So what do you guys think?

I will post pics as soon as I can.

I'm no guru but personally it doesn't seems as if anything is wrong with it. the coating withstand hundreds of degrees without damage so i don't see why some purple chemical would damage it.

i assume it has just left a film and highly doubt it is harmful at all try rubbing it with a cloth and some gasoline and it should come off. if it looks hazy and feels smoother thats kind of describes a film because usually when a surface becomes smoother it also becomes shinier, not duller.

Try some ScotchBrite and see if it will rub off. If it is a film, it will rub off. If the chrome is etched, it will be much harder to change the appearance/texture.

Ok, I will try some scotch brite, and maybe use a little gas to see if it comes off. Assuming the worst, (that it's etched on or something) does this make the housing unusable?

Thanks for the opinions so far.

The housing is fine. The chrome is porous, and the detergent has removed all the oil and made the surface dull. Just like new ones.

I would be shocked if a multi purpose cleaner could affect a rotor housing. My vote is that it's fine. It make have just made the surface a dull color from sitting. Don't worry about it...
