Good idea.

This will all have to wait until next weekend anyway. The car is outside and I only see daylight on the weekends anymore.

There's a drain plug on the bottom of our tanks... well at least mine has one.

Yeah, I thought about sliding a big pan underneath and draining the tank one panful at a time. But that would be a fumey teary-eyed mess.

Unless you're selling it for $100, the fuel cell foam is a much, much cheaper solution.

Just an update:

Today I pulled the fuel pump again and this time I had sheet metal shears to cut apart the baffles. That did the trick.

I only used 4 foam blocks, and they don't seem to be going anywhere. Any more and I might have risked them pushing free and catching on the fuel level float.

I believe the loose plastic part and spring are from one of the vapor check valves. If I had one of those phillips head screwdriver bits on an allen key tool I could have removed one of the valves to inspect them. The other is entirely inaccessible without dropping the fuel tank. I'm just going to procrastinate that for another day.

I have yet to "test" my fuel foam but before I do, I have another issue to address. Before I began my rebuild, my fuel gauge would never quite reach 'F' even though the tank was full of fuel. I wonder if it's the sender on the fuel pump or the gauge itself. How can you determine which is the culprit?

If you've found this thread by searching, read about my bad results using fuel cell foam:

When I raced my FD I stuffed the fuel tank with the same foam that racing fuel cells use. This will prevent sloshing far more and better than any rigid baffle system that you may find in an FD. The foam did not seem to reduce the gas tank capacity significantly. My records indicate that the when 5 gallons of fuel was added to an empty tank the fuel gauge read 1/4 with both foam and without the foam.
