Question about "Chroming" options.

I have a brief question about "chroming" or "polishing" of my muffler. After doing a google and forum search, I'm a little confused about what my options are, so I figured I would just ask.

I have heard a few people say that Harley Dealers will "polish" engine parts, and from what I have seen they will shine pretty well.

Do people "polish" their mufflers/exhaust, or is it possible for them to be coated with a chrome like finish that will withstand the heat?

I would like to make my muffler...

shine and look as sexy as my 18's...

Thank you in advance for any suggestions/advice!

IMO chrome is not the way to go with RX-7s...look into a titanium exhaust, looks so much better!

That looks to be a HKS CF Ti exhaust. It's already polished. It just has LOTS AND LOTS of gunk on it. It just needs to be buffed out, and it'll shine like new. You may need some cleaners tho to get rid of the buildup on it...

That is a titanium exhaust... the canister is CF, but the rest is titanium.

The tip is the only part that is titanium; the piping is stainless steel.

Just take off the muffler and scrub it with some kind of solvent and a brillo pad or steel wool. When it was new it was shiney!

Really? I didn't know that. So you're paying for a CF canister, and a titanium tip lol. Are the Greddy Ti and other exhausts completely titanium (including the piping), or only the tip (and possibly canister)?

Yep only the tip...

My guess would be it's the same for the others.

I don't recommend it. Virtually all exhausts turn a bronze color eventually from the heat.

Sexy, eh?

What's w/ the 245/40-18 tires? Are you running the same sizes on the front? You know those aren't the proper sizes, right?

Do you know how much titanium costs, Mr. Ramy? An all titanium exhaust is expensive - Rotary Extreme's unit runs $1100!

Yes I do Mr. Gil. The HKS Titanium Racing Exhaust runs $1520. And as I mentioned above, that's just the canister itself that's titanium. The rest of the tubing (basically a MP) is stainless steel. In fact, I was contemplating selling an ARC Titianium full exhaust not too long ago, that retails for $3500 new. It's completely titanium, from beginning to end. I thought the HKS Titanium Racing Exhaust was the same way. Now I realize why it's so much cheaper than the ARC unit

Here's one from Rotary Performance. They say the entire section (flange, piping, canister, tip) is made of Titanium. Just $619.00 Weighs 7.8lbs.

I had a guy bring in a similar condition muffler and had it ceramic coated near chrome.

ZERO maintainence. No corrosion, cool to touch on the outside ( he was worried about the tips being so close to the bumper cover and melting it ).

I have no idea. I image it's good for any metal polished surface but it's best trait is cleaning. I typically use it for exhaust, IC's, and other metal parts that take a lot of abuse.

From what I've heard, if you are really looking for just a "polish", 3M's polish is one of the best from what I hear:

http://www.levineautoparts.com/3mchromandme.html

I'll be trying it out with my new setup (since I have a lot of polished parts now) when it all goes back together.
