Thumbs up Put down 337 to the ground on stock twins!

Yesterday Rotary Performance and the Dallas/Fort Worth Rx7 club had a charity dyno day. I dynoed at 337rwhp, 268rwt at 13#, running Chuck Westbrook's Power FC timing maps. I was extremely happy; that was the highest hp for a forced induction Mazda the whole day (excluding Steve Kan's monster of course ).

I'll give more details of all the results and street racing later (still hung over from the weekend )

Rich

Later,
Steve K. put down ~450 w/out n20 and ~550 with. Believe it or not, he wasn't happy with the results...he wanted more:p

And Chuck's maps made a *big* difference, not just in peak power but throughout the rpm band....later that day I pulled on a 400rwhp Supra

What time did you go up against that Supra? I missed that! Was it that white Supra? I know that "Sir Q" had a Supra that had 550 rwh and he told me that it was not running its best and that he has gotten over 600 before.
My second turbo was only running at 6lbs so my run on the dyno did not turn out so great. I need to fix that right away.

Were you using the base fuel map with that dyno run?

The maps Rich is talking about are not my original
Houston set 1 that is here on the forum. It is my current maps which I have not fined or dynoed tune yet.

A group of us here in Houston just ordered a Uego

http://www.mwignitions.com/uego.htm

In about three weeks I will be tuning my maps with this system after we get the data logging to work. My installation of Blitz FMIC, SS MP, and 1200cc injectors is complete.

NOTE: When dyno tuning with a liner O2 sensor, it is better to use 4th gear so that the turbos are loaded up more!

Whoops...forgot about the mods. I figured you were all sick of seeing my sig by now .

Btw, the fuel map I'm running is the one I posted on the forum.

One other thing I forgot to mention...I'm running ngk platinum 9's trailing and ngk platinum 10.5's leading.

I do not know the exact cost for the UEGO system we are getting, but it is about $1200. There are 5 of us in the purchasing group. We are some of the more serious/technical owners here in Houston.

He was using my timing maps which are slightly modified maps from Ray, and using his own fuel maps.

Hi Rich!
Thanks for all your help at RP saturday with my power fc. I messed with it a bit more and get 12.5 psi consistanly. Sorry I couldn't make it Saturday night, but I had to help with a haunted house(I get into this halloween sh*t).

Don't be surprised when I call you with more PFC questions.

Later,
Jason

Oh and one more thing.
Rich took me for a little run in his car on Saturday.
I consider myself a strong man with no fear...but I wanted him to take me back. Yes, I was scared. It was FAST.
He needs some roll bars in the SOB.

Congrats Rich,

Those are some nice numbers at 13#. Are you planning to go any higher?

Have you noticed any regular driveability issues with running such cold plugs in the leading position?

Also, where did you get them?

Anyone know if there are any issues with running all 9's? I live in Souther California and it tends to get hot around here.

Hey Jason,

thanks for the compliments

I had just recently put in the racing plugs and surprised myself too. I was thinking something like, "I hope these pads and rotors are as good as advertised" :p

Feel free to call anytime; my buddy Alan and I hope to be up in the D/FW area next weekend to maybe we can get together.

later man--

Rich

Hey Attila,

Once I throw the 850's I have sitting under my bed in the primaries and upgrade my ignition, I'm hoping for 350-360@14# :p

I've been running 9's all around from the advice of Dave at KD for over 2 years now. He recommends them for all modified FDs. I will say that I have to change my plugs every ~10k miles, but Advance Auto sells the NGK platinum 9's for like $6 apiece and I do it myself so the cost is negligible.

I'd highly recommend 9's all around for all non-bone stock FDs.

As for the racing plugs, RP sells them for $29 apiece (eep!). My R1 was running like poop w/the 9s at my current power levels, so I decided to run the racing plugs in the leading positions, cost be damned . The car pulls so frickin' hard, I really don't care at this point

As far as drivability issues, I'll keep yous guys posted...

Rich, You don't need bigger injectors for 360 rwhp...There are 6 of us around here who run betwwen 360-390 rwhp and we ALL run stock injectors with supra tt fuel pumps and run 15 psi....Some guys run race fuel and 17 psi on stock injectors...NO problems. Stock injectors are good for 400 rwhp..Call up everybodys favorite, Peter Farrell and ask him about the T-78 that made over 400 rwhp with stock injectors on the dyno....This I wouldn't recomend though..f

Would this happen to be Dana Bourgioues? If so, I just mangled the hell out of your last name. Sorry man :p. I remember a D.B. from the big list that used to sign off with 'f'

The reason I feel I need to upgrade injectors is this: my PowerFC Commander is showing peak/hold values of 90-92% whenever I rev her out at 13#. I feel that's a little high and don't want to stress the injectors.

Also, I've *never* called Peter Farrell (even though my share the same last name ) and don't plan on starting now.

Please expound upon your last post...if I don't need to upgrade injectors, that's definitely good news...

Rich

Hey rich,
Good job on the extra couple of hp. I think its about time for you and alan to come down to sea level and meet me on the highway. Did you get that PPF in yet? Im still running the stock type NGK's did those racing ones actually help?

I don't know how people are doing it, making 400 rwhp with the stock injectors, other than taking the risk of running lean in the process. Anyone have the O2 or wide band readings that might correspond with those runs? Using the injector math equation, or even easier, the rx-7.com fuel calculator, our cars, pushing 100% duty cycle only make 422 from the flywheel. I'd imagine they have a somewhat rich figure for the engines fuel consumption, more so than a piston engine. Do those making 400 to the wheels also have a fuel pressure regulator that bumps up fuel under boost? It's statements like that (you don't need larger injectors or fuel system mods more than fuel pump) that cause people to lose engines due to running them lean on the dyno wanting to make the same hp someone else makes when that someone else is so close to losing an engine to running lean its well stupid.

Grip, complain, call me an idiot, but sure you can make a dyno run at 14 or 15 psi, stock injectors, larger pump and make a nice number. Leaving it at that setting and driving the car, racing it on the street, hitting redline in 3rd and 4th gear often is just a quick way to start a new thread on how you lost your engine and that these engines are fragile. Point blank, to make 360 to 400 rwhp on these engine safely, you need larger injectors or a fuel pressure regulator that bumps fuel pressure up under boost, inaddition to a higher flowing fuel pump. Anything less and you are playing with fire!
