Purchasing boost controller

What would be the best boost controller to go with the sequential setup? I was thinking AVCR due to price and features, but I read searching that it does not work well with the sequential. Cost is not really an object. I've seen many using the Profec B. I'm also considering the Blitz ID controller. Based on my reading they all seem to replace the wastegate actuator pill. What about the pre-control actuator, do you continue to use the stock pill?

Jason said that the avcr isn't that good for the stock sequential. I would go with profec B

Yes just the WG line is used usually.( others have done both pre-spool and WG) The profecB is easy to install and use. Pretty straight foward! I Had the AVCR with my single set-up but it needs replacement. I'll probably go with the profec B. That's my take.

No blitz info, but I love my profec. My twins are non-seq, but I've never heard of anyone having issues with boost control when they're seq. (assuming it's everthing is set-up correctly)

I just put my Profec B Spec II in and so far so good. It was really easy to install. It's also easy to set up. I could have had it installed in less than half a day but I ended up accidentally cutting a wire for one or my gauges while drilling a hole. There is a good thread on the install here. I haven't had a chance to fine tune the set up because I was having fuel pressure problems, but using other peoples set up info I got close.

My brother has the AVCR and it looks a lot harder to install and the set up looks more complicated too. He had XS Engineering install most of it. It does have lots of features though. He has single turbo and is just breaking everything including the engine in so I have no other useful information about that.

For single turbo applications the AVCR and Blitz controllers work great. To many problems running those with the stock twins. Go for the Profec B. Easy to use and install.

Profec B is what I heard when I asked about this earlier. Is using the boost controller built into the PowerFC a good/bad idea??

The boost control feature on the Power FC is basically the boost control solenoid from the AVCR. I have the AVCR, and while it took a very long time to install, it wasn't 'extremely difficult'. The features of the AVCR is way beyond the profec B. The display and options you can tune are fantastic. Basically if you want a good affordable EBC, get the profec B. If you want more control over more functions and the ability to monitor things you cant on the profec, get the AVCR. The AVCR will indeed take more time to install and to tune though. I don't know about the Blitz though.

P.S. the AVCR runs both WG and Precontrol actuators, unlike the profec.

That is an add-on option, Seldon was referring to the built-in boost control with the PFC.

Seldon, lots of people use the PFC to control boost (which uses the stock solenoids). I prefer the Profec because it's much more convenient to switch between settings and it is much less weather-dependent than using the PFC.

Profec B is very good for the price, simple and easy to use, but Blitz dual solenoids are teh best they hold the pressure because of the dual solenoids and no fear of creep and spikes, with AVCR you will have many problems because it's solenoid is too thin and cannot control the pressure as the others.

If you have a boost controller like the Blitz, do you still need a boost gauge? Seems liek that would serve as a guage also. Don't flame me if that is incorect, I am new.

The blitz boost controller does have a boost guage which is more acurate than any other ones. I think the blitz sbc-id controller is probably the best controller out there. But then I am biased because I have one. Its a little more expensive than the others but its the best sequental controller. Its very easy to set up and use. The digital readout tells you everything you need to know. And yes it does replace the wg line. Hope this helps.

I am looking at a totally stock FD, and I will obviously need a boost guage. So instead of spending 150 on a boost guage and getting it mounted and stuff, then getting a boost controller down the road, I can just invest in the Blitz and forget the Boost guage?

I have no twin experience with turbos but the sbc-id is awsome. If i'm not mistaken, it has the capability to run twins.

I have an sbc-id thats been on at least 5 cars & ran each flawlessly. no I'm not going to sell it, I'm looking for another turbocharged car to hang it on

Why do the blitz and apexi controllers not recommended with seq twins? Do they have trouble with the precontrol actuator?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. If the blitz is the best one out there why is there problems with the sequential twins? The Profec B II looks good but there are some display options and the combination with the SBC ID Power Meter that makes the Blitz look good to me. I want to make sure whatever I get is going to work the way I want it to.

Actually the blitz controller is the only one that is recommended for the sequential setup hence the name "sequential boost controller."

Its only a name. I think if you read through this and other threads you will find that most people prefer and recommend the Profec b/c it works very well on FD running sequentials. You over generalized there saying "its the only one that is recommended".

My buddy is running sequentially on his car. Before the boost controller he was getting boost spikes and irratic boost. After installing the blitz he hasn't had any problems. The reason why I say its the best for the sequentials is because you can adjust how fast the wastegate opens therefore taking care of the boost spikes. The reason why alot of people buy the profec is because it is considerably cheaper. But if you want to tune your car using a crappy mechanical boost guage instead of the one on the boost controller like the blitz has then be my guest. (I found that my autometer boost guage is off by almost 1.5 psi at 15 psi). Thats just my opinion.
