pump gas hp?

hopefully before too long i'll be purchasing an RX, FD of course . but i was wondering whats the most HP you know of that has been on pump gas, 93-94octane. And this will be with a completely built motor, most likely a street port but maybe a race port. and do you think I should do the engine first? the way i was thinking was this:
radiator
oil cooler
axles
lsd
big brake upgrade
suspension
wheels/tires

most likely none of this besides the radiator and oil cooler would be installed right away. then i'd save some for the doors, cosmetics, gauges, fuel system, ignition, EMS, turbo kit, then completely done up motor, etc.
or should i just do the motor and get it over with? and i know i need to learn the car before i start giving it a lot of power. it will be my daily driver for awhile and then i'll switch to an suv.

on a side note how much hp would i need to run mid 10's or so, whats the fastest time on pump gas, and what do i need to get into the 7's or so in the 1/8? a friend of the families keeps on trying to get me to buy a muscle car, their nice and all but it's not what i want, he says that fd's aren't as fast as them they're just quick, very unreliable, etc. you know, typical right?

Im not sure how much you can get out of pump gas, but after a point you HAVE to run race gas if you want to get down near 10's. Not sure at what point tho!

I cannot answer your original question so I probably should not post, but that did not stop the first reply. What I really want to know from your muscle car buddy is what the difference between quick and fast is.

Is running 10's only quick and not fast!? if so I'll take my cars quick rather than fast. I have not seen any street driven muscle car that could do that. On top of that I don't think they fare to well at DE's, autocrosses, etc. That, I'm told, is the real joy of owning an rx7.

what he means is in dragging. he is use to using cars that run methanol, and if not things like built big blocks, etc. i'm not sure how to 'guess' what the times would be as in going from 1/8 to 1/4 but i believe he was talking about running 7's and 6's in the 1/8. thats what all of the tracks around here are, but you can drive awhile and find a 1/4, just takes a good while, which sucks.
