in the process of pulling my down pipe i stripped the studs and in getting those out stripped the threads in the actual turbo... any suggestions on pulling turbos to retap the hole ? I have never done it before Any advice would be greatly appreciated

 

other then unbolting the turbos from the manifold, u must undo
the oil feed line
2 coolant lines
2 oil return lines
kind of a pain in the *** to remove, u need to access these components from the engine bay and under the car. good luck

 

You sure the threads in the cast-iron are shot? I have found they are usually fine, and if I use an M10-1.5mm tap I can clean them out again.

the threads may not be shot but there maybe some thread from the stud left in them either way i can't put another bolt in there and i can't fit a tap or a drill down there

 

I would go ahead and remove the turbos so you can get a better look and repair it properly.

 

This same thing happened to me. When i took my turbos off on the engine stand all of the studs came out with the nuts.... then the downpipe nuts also proved to be a problematic.


After the seized nuts/studs soaked in PB blaster for a week the nuts came off the studs easily.


One of my downpipe studs was soooo seized that it took half of the threads out with it, luckily i was able to use another stud and double nut it from the other side to 'repair' the threads.. well half of them anyways. I installed the new stud with a lot of red loctite, so hopefully it will last until i go single!



I would either try to retap the original threads as stated above, or just tap a slightly larger thread.

If you do choose to take off your turbos I’d suggest you label things as you go. It just makes reinstalling them a lot easier. Cheers
