Pulling motor - cant get past engine mounts
pulling my motor for the second time - first time was with the gearbox attached which was fairly straight forward but this time im trying without removing the trans.
My issue is i cant seem to separate the motor from the gearbox even though ive got 5-8mm clearance between them, my suspicion is the mounts wont clear the mount well to let the motor move forward enough. I cant move the transmission any higher as its already hitting the top of the tunnel.
Anyone been through this before, any bright ideas?

Obvious question, have you released the clutch - assuming it's still a pull type installed?

Yep, you forgot to release the throwout bearing. You're in for a fight now.
Sit the engine back down and bolt the trans back to the engine with a few bolts - doesn't have to be totally bolted up, just get the gap to close back up. Then pull the inspection plate and disengage the throwout bearing. There are tons of videos and how-to's on the process.
Sometimes if you don't disengage first it becomes a HUGE fight and it gets stuck. If so, just unbolt the pressure plate - undo a bolt, rotate, next bolt, rotate. The clutch/pressure plate will stay in the trans when you pull the engine. Keep an eye on them so the clutch doesn't drop out onto the ground and get damaged.

Cheers for the replies guys, throwout bearing was released i think the insput shaft was binding inside the shaft. Ended up draining the gearbox and pulling that out too.
For any home gamers pulling a motor, just pull the transmission with the motor its not worth the hassle

I almost always leave the trans in the car. Never had an issue with it. It is a decent amount of extra work - pull PPF, middle section of exhaust, drain trans, pull shifter, etc.
