are pullies worth all the trouble

The FD I bought came with a pully set and belts. They are silver. The main pully is black and it looks really small. Does anybody know what kit(s) these are? How much they are worth? Pullies don't seem to make that big of a difference. Thanks

Just get the greddy pully kit. Forget the other ones.

Pullies, as I have seen on the forum, can give a marked increase in HP, moreso than other engines.

Funny, most mechanics I've talked to say the pulleys are very nominal gains, probably not even worth it. I did it anyways since the engine was out but that's the feedback I got when I asked around.

At most, 5 hp, and that's mainly because you spent the money. However, if you spend time at the track, or at sustained high rpm's, then the smaller pulleys will reduce cavitation, keep things a bit cooler.

But isn't that on Jasons monster car. That's like saying that a K&N filter gives you 15 rwhp*

The Unorthodox main pulley has to be installed very carefully I believe, as it is a complete replacement, hub and all. If everything isn't perfectly aligned you can royally screw things up...I don't remember the details, but a search should set you up. Once in, they're supposed to be quite good. Most of the other main pulleys just bolt to the stock hub, and provide a reduction (or is it an increase? Whichever is better :-) in size but not so much in weight, although I remember Cam showing me a new Pettit pulley that was substantially lighter than their previous one, and it also bolted to the stock hub.

Exactly. I find it very difficult to believe that a stock FD motor suffers from 15hp worth of parasitic drag from the pulleys/pumps. I didn't ask Jason specifically, and I don't doubt his word on gaining that power; it's just a relative comparison that could make a big difference in the actual gains an average buyer would see. Small percentage gains on a big hp motor are major boosts when compared against a stock or near-stock motor.

I believe the Unorthodox pulley requires loosening the main eccentric shaft bolt (a major PITA), while the Greddy units don't.
