pulley noises

Hi all, i have a jap car and the pulleys make a dreadful noise now, the inner part of the second pulley in doesnt move, and its making a terrible racket until i put pressure on it. what have i done?

Is it costly repair?

Sounds like a seized bearing and now you're destroying your belts. Replace that pulley (and bearing), put on new belts, and make sure they are not overtensioned.

oh by the way, the pulley is still spinning but i take it, the inner is supposed to as well?

Well since I'm not sure exactly which pulley you're referring to, I can't say which should be spinning when. The air pump and A/C compressor have clutches that only spin with the wheel part time. Others spin full time, but the center of the bearing of course does not rotate.

Pretty much any competent garage should be able to find the problem and fix it. You might be best off going that route.

pulley time!!

its the one on the left, here, the inner doesnt spin,

was wondering how to put a new one on, especially how do i loosen belt?

^that is the idler/tension pulley, loosen the nut on the pulley face the unscrew the jack bolt on the backside untill you can get the belt off then remove the face nut and the pulley will come off....the bearing is just a generic, ushually NOK or Natchi, any good bearing house should be able get one for less than $20 or you can get the whole pulley @ a parts store.

How do you loosen the belt? Dude, download the Factory Service Manual if you are trying to work on the car yourself!
