Smile Proud New Owner of a Single Turbo R1, 80,000 miles

This car was for sale on ebay. I had a 15K budget and he wanted 17K. I offered him 15K and he took it. It has been a few years since I said goodbye to my second gen. Now I am back in the rotary game. Wish me luck and check me out on the Atlanta area!

Are you talking about the fading? If so, that is pretty common with the R1 velvet seats.

nice dude. i noticed in the mods it says: tein lowering springs...

the stock struts cant handle that kind of spring rate. you should really consider getting newer upgraded ones. or throw some coilovers on, if money permits

Been there, done that with my second gen. I plan to take it easy on this one. The only mod I should be doing is a engine rebuild when necessary.

No money right now. Give me some time... I want to take this down to Road Atlanta as my Miata, though great to drive, could not keep up with the high-powered cars on that fast track.

Also i would probably clean up the engine bay a little bit, and try to clean up the interior electronics. It seems like they are everywhere, and not hidden very well.

Agreed with you. I can't see the tach and wires in the passenger footwell? That is an easy fix. Minor details. At least the cockpit is not overwhelmed with gauges as is sometimes the trend.

I'll probably sell my 92 Miata with the '00 engine to pay for toys. After all, I'm trading one toy for another.

Avis is my DD, I'm a consultant so I have rentals all week. I only need one weekend car. Besides, the Miata is race prepped with roll bars and a full (read very loud) race exhaust. The Rx-7 is actually a little tamer than the Miata even though the Miata has it beat in reliability. At least the R1 has A/C. The Miatia's A/C is I take the hard top off.

I know. My previous second gen took about 30k of my money. I am really trying not to do that this time. One reason why I bought one that already had most of the expensive pieces already.

Thanks guys. I knew the parts were top notch--I purchased many of them before. I still have that little knot in my stomach, half excitement and half "what the hell am I getting into?". Life is about calculated risks though and I still have my 06 Civic sedan for those bad rotor days. Thanks for the encouragement. This forum has always been great for support.

Wow, those seats are faded. Must of spent a lot of time outside.

I agree about cleaning up the engine bay, definitely get a new air filter.

You may want to post the info on the car and some of the pics here, the ebay ad will expire soon and this people clicking on the link won't see anything.

I'd recommend performing full maintenance on the car, unless the previous owner has receipts to prove it's been done recently. Fuel filter, tranny fluid, diff fluid, etc etc.

P.S. You don't hunt Hondas in your FD just like you wouldn't hunt groundhogs with an M1 Garand

I am picking it up this Friday so I will take some first hand pictures. Maybe I can try to dye the seats. Any other low-budget suggestions?
