Daily driven my 300+ rwhp rx7 for two straight years. Only problem was the stock clutch gave out from the extra torque and the clutch slave cylinder went out. For a car with 70,000 miles, think that's more than reasonable
. I have found this car to be very reliable

And what is a 'major' problem? My well-taken-care-of non-abused 1993 with 44k miles has a bunch of issues (hood, hatch, dash, suspension squeaks, worn suspension bushings; leaky oil filter o rings, and turbos; erratic AC; boost issues; schitzoid stock alarm; and is on its second water pump). Some would consider this a car with no major problems; others would not.

i bought my first FD this summer in non running condition. it still doesnt run but i have managed to sell enough parts from it to go single. ive never driven the car but i love it and this board.
I got my 93 a year ago with a bad motor. I did General Motors dealership tune up and Drive-ability for over 20 years. Overhauling this car has been the most fun, second only to driving it! Since I installed the motor its been great. I first plained to sell it but now I wouldn't think of it. This car is now part of the family. John St. John
Promblems with FD!
An FD is like a beautiful Woman, great to look at, great to touch, and great to take for a ride, but having a beautiful woman has it's share of problems. I wouldn't trade it for the world! If you don't want problems get a Honda & a ugly woman, you'll never go wrong.
I have a 1993 with 37k on it now but bought it with 25k and havent had any major probs except my clutch
but yea besides modding it and right now on warm up when its cold it has a little prob wanting to almost die sometimes but other than that car has been fantastic with performance wise and cruising...wouldnt trade the car for anything....love ya Cat!!!!!!

never had anything break for no reason
never been stranded
however I'll admit that if you do one of a few things the engine is toast without warning and very sensitive compared to even normal car engines
Incredible cars this is my 2nd one and I wish I just had more money and time to do what I want with it. I have it at the wrong stage in my life. It's an experience that I'll never forget though as it's occupied a lot of my time the last 4 years

LOL...very funny!
I have had my FD since May 2004 so I cannot say I am experienced.
I have had the luck of finding her with a newly changed engine. Till now she has not given me any trouble. Needless to say that I take great care of her. I always ask even if I have the minimum suspect.
Only trouble I had with her is becasue of its previous Japanese owner did not take any car of her. Some body rework, bad sparking plugs, a couple of rose joints and bushings.
I have driven many cars as well but yes till now no other one has given me the pleasures of and RX7. I simply love her and try to never underestimate her tough.

i have had 2 fd's, 3 if you count my brother's old one. in anycase, i have always have little problems here and there but that is expected with a car as old as this and with as many stock quirks. some say if your not breaking ****, your not racing
in anycase, i dont think a fd is worst then any other car really. if you like to slam thru the gears, you gotta expect to replace a few trannies. if you like to clutch kick and smoke your tires, you gotta expect to do a few tranny and diff changes. if you like to over boost to get more power, you gotta expect to replace a few engines. common sense will tell you most of the stuff you have to know with this car and as cost go, its not really that bad
BTW: a XJ-R is a turbo jag right?

Had mine about two years. Fixed most all of the relatively minor issues (suspension noises and 5th gear synchro) and even improved a few things ( sound insulation, interior rattles and most of the reliability mods). Currently at 67k with a sensor issue, which I'll fix this winter. For the most part, working on the car isn't a chore, it's part of the fun... my work therapy. Regarding what I've done so far, I don't see it as a negative, especially since it is an older high performance car.You want something ultra-reliable to use on the weekend, buy a row boat. For me it's been worth the price.
I can't speak from a lengthy experience, since it's only been 3+ Months now but:
I love my car and am proud of it. My ONLY problem was relative to a mechanics error (Didn't clamp a coolant hose! BIG NO NO!) and other than that she runs smooth and like a champ.
I love it more and more as I compare it to other cars I've ridden/driven, what else I could have boughten at $12-16k, and also how it fares against those with higher price tags that eclipse it even 5-6x over.
I have yet to see a nicer interior, and the exterior is one of very FEW cars I like from many (almost all) angles.
I also feel that many problems stem from a lack of knowledge, and definitely recommend buyers to look for a stock or near stock FD, I think that saved me from lots of troubles.
The only reason I'd sell the FD is for financial reasons and I'd get something a bit "less sporty" in the meantime...it will never be "replaced". I think the perfect garage has a Rotary Turbo for all the high winding fun and a nice torquey domestic (Z06 or Viper) for the opposite effect.
