In light of hearing all these sob stories about FDs, I would like to be one (hopefully others as well) to tell good stories about my FD.
I've owned 3 FDs, 2 at the moment. I haven't had a single problem with anyone of them, other than needing a a/c recharge (thats quite obvious for a car thats over 11 years old). They start every single time and have never left me stranded. Being 11 years old I find that very reliable. The A/C always blows cold. The engine never shut down on me anywhere. I changed the oil every 2-3k miles. Always poured premium unleaded. I do baby my cars and they baby me right back. Everytime I get into my FD I'm happy to know I have a real driver's car. I have driven many cars, SC430, Boxster, '04 XJR, E320, 3000GTVR4Spyder, SupraTT, 911, C4S and more, but no car gives me the same excitement as my decade old FD.
The only money ever spent on these cars were for maintenence or performance. I never had to do any repair work on any single one of them.
I've noticed on forums, not just this one, that its usually used for a resource of problems and posting of complaints. Not many times are there followup posts regarding when owners have no problems. People with problems talk, people without problems don't (obviously because there isn't a complaint). If the cars were as unreliable as people make them out to be, there wouldn't be a strong 11+ years of the FD production in Europe and Japan.
So this thread is for proud FD owners! Unite!

I can't find another sports car with a nicer ergonomic design than the FD! Only the FD fits like a glove.

You know...If I had not jecked with (modded) my car it would probaby have never given any probs when it was sequential...
I have been single now fo a couple months and starts evertime...well, except when that friggin lawn mower battery dies.
So I have to say that my car is pretty friggin reliable for a weekend car

i've never had anything but good times with my car! all the money has gone to mod (minus a few things that i wanted to replace from the previous owner... a vacuum line... and something else) just proper maintence and toys
I agree, proper maintenance goes a long way. I think the FDs with problems are the ones being abused and not maintained. Or those who buy pre-owned FDs run into problems because the previous owner didn't maintain them. Many FD owners on here are still on the original engines going over 100k miles.

i have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS with both of my FD's (one stock 94 pep, and one 93 being 20b'd
) . ive owned the stock 94 for the last 4 years. id say that i have driven it for a year and it has sat for the rest of the time with various ongoing problems. so no.... proper maintanence does not go a long way because i properly maintain my car (and then some) and she'll only run for a few months without another problem surfacing (and the previous owner took good care of her too).
ive got no problem with "FD owners uniting" but dont give people the impression to people that these cars are problem free. you know just as well as i do that these are QWIRKY CARS! they are notorious for having strange problems/expensive problems/and regularly needing new engines. im not being mean just realistic
that being said i would not give up the FD for anything! i absolutely love the FD no matter how many problems they give me, because when they are working correctly i would have no other car. for me its really a love hate relationship... but i always love the FD in the end. it takes a certain type of person to drive an RX-7 because you basically have to be your own mechanic (unless you can afford a rediculously overpriced shop that may or may not make your car worse)... you have to be able to take a great deal of frustration... you have to be able to see the light at the end of the road... and you have to be willing to stick with her through the thick and the thin. When you buy an rx7 its like getting married.... after all the all of the novelty has worn off and you settle down you see all of the problems and quirks that you have to live with... and you will see that if you TRUELY love the car you will stick with it no matter what. There arent many cars that can make me as excited as the FD, and as frustrated at the same time.... but no matter what happens, the good times always seem to overshadow the bad ones.
in short, i feel that it takes a special type of person to keep an FD. everyone wants to drive one, but not many people can take the problems. im telling you, most FD owners that have owned their cars for EXTENDED periods of time are all a little quirky themselves
. if you look at the people that still have FD's in 5 years when they are not as cool, not as attractive, not as fast, as newer cars you will see what i mean. MG's are the same way... if you ever have the chance to talk to an old MG mechanic they are the same way... very dedicated and very strange.... but my MG mechanic once said something to me that ill never forget " there are few cars out there that will give you this many problems yet put such a smile on your face... they break and youll do anything to get them working again... few cars are like the MG... few cars have 'soul' " i think this applies to the FD. ok im done... i better get back to work

You should really open up another thread if you are going to complain. Your problems are yours and you can't tell other FD owners that have no problems to agree with you.
Sorry that I haven't had one single problem with any one of my three FDs. I'm sorry that you bought an FD with problems. There are many preowned cars with problems not just an FD, if you don't know what your buying.

I'm not mad that your not agreeing with me. I just don't think its right to interrupt a thread that was suppose to be about FDs that don't have problems.

I have not dumped money into fixing any single one of my FDs. They are all problem free.
I will agree with you that I buy FDs that were very well taken care of and with very low miles. I see any car that is over 11 years old with lots of miles being potentially unreliable. Even if its a Honda. My sis had a Accord with numerous tranny problems, went out at 60k miles. I had a Acura Vigor back in the early 90s that had a transmission problem and took it out at 70k.
The reason for this thread is to show that there are FDs out there with no major problems. FDs that are well taken care of and not abused. We see posts left and right about complaints. It was suppose to be a refreshing thread about good things and not bad things.

Bought my RX-7 in January '04 , with 44K miles on it. Now at 55K miles, it's never given me any trouble. I changed the coolant and fuel filter the month I bought the car, and I've changed the oil every 1-2k miles. Spark plugs every 5K, and also added a downpipe and fresh tires. I love this car, and agree completely with your comments re: ergonomics. The RX-7 fits me better than any other car I've driven.

There are plenty of well taken care of non abused FDs that have had major problems. (Or is your implication that (2) causes (1)?)
And what is a 'major' problem? My well-taken-care-of non-abused 1993 with 44k miles has a bunch of issues (hood, hatch, dash, suspension squeaks, worn suspension bushings; leaky oil filter o rings, and turbos; erratic AC; boost issues; schitzoid stock alarm; and is on its second water pump). Some would consider this a car with no major problems; others would not.
