My friend does it by eye. Of course, he's been painting for nearly 20 years.

I had a friend match my 12 year old montego green paint perfectly. It took him the good part of a day and a number of test strips, but he got it.
He matched my MBM in about 10 minutes. He sprays a paint stick and holds it next to the car, and then adds some of this or that.

:: I know it's montego blue, but the guy that painted his car with the metal flake, purple-green **** came up with this more accurate color description....didn't ya Jim??
Yeah, Montego Green Mica. Or were you referring to the Funky Dunky Mystic Magic Mountain Rainbow Easter Egg paint? I've got a pint and a half of FDMMMREE sitting on the shelf in the garage still.

I am not worried about matching paint. My original question was the durability of non-factory paint compared to factory paint.

I came to the conclusion that factory paint 10+years ago is not as good as non-factory paint today. But I have yet to find solid info to back this assumption up.

That's exactly what I did when I left me car at the shop for a paint job. It worked too. The owner of the shop was trying to drive my car around the block and couldn't get it above 3k. He thought something was wrong with the car. hehehe
