Pros and Cons of 3rd gen RX7...please read.

My previous car was a 02 RSX wich I bought without asking anybody's opinion that's why I got screwed. The car sucks ***, gear grind, no stability, very harsh driving. I came to the conclusion that I should had done a research before I got it.
I just don't want to do the same mistake again so that's why I need your guy's help. I've always loved the Rx7 Twin Turbo but I couldn't afford it, now that I have some money to spare I wanna get one.
I don't understand much about rotary engines cuz I've always had Hondas and Toyotas so I was wondering as far as maintenance, parts etc.

Please let me know the pros and cons of a 3 generation. It will be very helpfull in making my decision.

If you anyone has links to anything that would be helpfull...please post it.

Thanks,
Peace.

Are you sure it was not just your driving. I have driven one and it was pretty smooth. Maybe it was just the loose nut behind the wheel!

Gear grind in a Honda? They have some of the best transmissions out there.

Just look around most have a rebuilt engine. It is a money pit. Parts for the car are extremely expensive. Most people have a second car, as a daily driver cause the 7 will be in the shop and leave you stranded. But when it is running great, it's a blast and worth all the money you just dumped into it.

I know, I've always had hondas, the thing is the Acura Rsx. Beatifull car, fast, but very unconfortable and stiff driving. If you read some of the RSX forum, you'll see what I'm talking about. We tried to have them make a recall but Acura denied it.

If you think an RSX is rough then an RX7 is not for you.

I'm going to have some fun with this....

Pros: Best damned car to ever be built by any Japanese company.

Cons: Cost of car is far cheaper than the cost of keeping the car running, harsh ride, twitchy in the wet, poor gas mileage, no rear seat(since you're a hondatard, I assume you want a back seat, so that you can rip it out), RWD(You probably didn't even know such a thing existed).

Let's just say, if you had comfort issues with a Honda compact car, you're not going to like this car. If you only have enough money to purchase the car, you're not going to be too happy with it as a lawn ornament.

Oh, 90% of us have dedicated DD cars, too. You should count on buying a second car that you can drive daily.

also, check http://www.fd3s.net and http://robrobinette.com if you don't want to listen to us(most don't, then bitch later, you know..because they know the cars better than we do.).

Also, ******* search. It will go a long way.

^^^ Weeeeehheee

Yeah man I can promise you.........

-it will not be more comfortable then your honda

-it will be more expensive for parts and upkeep

-it will break down so you will need a towing service

-it will be the most fun you have ever had in a car

-it will be smaller then your honda, and maybe uncomfortable to your legs or belly if you are a big guy

-it will drain your bank account

- it will give you a boner when you look at your driveway and see it

-it will need a new motor eventually

- it will force you to learn how to use a search button on a forum

AND

The first mod you should do to an fd is buy another car for a dd.

goodluck,
-josh

Damn, are u guys sure that yall drive a Rx7? If the car eats up your bank account, unconfortable, expensive as hell, stiff ride, insurance gotta be mad expensive too, shiiiiiit, I want one of those man.
Never seen so much cons about a car in my whole life, not even on Hynday forums.... I gave up already...going back to honda...S2000 it is, the only honda tha matches up. But damn, I want a rx7 man...freakin car... see, I have now a Tercel 97 1.3 turbo starlet engine running at 18 psi, **** is fast and unconfortable but I love the speed man. The thing about the HONDA is that you spend a fortune on that ****, and it gets u to 300 ponies, wth, and then some haters steall. It won't matter to me if the car is unconfortable but as long as it's fast and looks good. RX7 is perfect but cost a fortune.....that why when I started the thread I asked abour pros and cons about MAINTANCE, PARTS ETC...PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT...don't give the **** about HONDA, I know about the damn car already...u name a model, I had it.

But thanks yall, some of yall have been very helpfull...

I second that. I test drove an RSX the first year they came out and felt it smooth and comfortable. Plus, I used to own an Integra GSR back in 2002. But I can't see myself ever going back to a FWD "sports" car again. Now the only FWD car I own is a DD (hyundai elantra). If I didn't have a DD I wouldn't have purchased this car. I bought my FD about a month ago and already have a check engine light for an intake air temp sensor problem. I'm sure that it's laughing at me as it prepares to give me bigger pains in the future

Use the search button, dude. I have yet to post any questions since I find just about anything I have questions for here. If you're going to buy this car, accept the fact that you'll have to do lots of reading on your own rather than finding a quick and easy way to answer your questions.

I even found this info here to be rather helpful on getting me started...

Thanks man...
RSX sucks, thats why they've been discontinued. I rather drive my Tercel that is ugly as **** but mechanical wise, its smooth than to drive a nice looking, all leather interior RSX...I'm talking about the 02-04, I've never driven the 05 up.

Most of the people in this thread are being ********, if you keep up with maintenance and don't beat on the car it will be reliable. If you build the car, build it right. Yes it has shitty gas mileage, 14-20mpg average, but I'm 6'2 and my cars comfortable to me. If you do build the car you need a deep pocket. Also do all the reliable mods and your car will be pretty fast and pretty reliable in the end.

It's a labor of love. Anyone can buy an RX-7, but it takes someone special to KEEP an RX-7(as anything other than a lawn ornament).

I love S2ks, and am(still) planning on buying one for a daily driver. They can't quite match up with a 7, but they are nice looking, reliable, semi-fun and are nice for when you don't want to come back to your car after shopping and find a crowd of people photographing it...

Also, check out www.s2ki.com it's a great forum. Everyone there is really nice. They haven't had 15 years to be bitter about their cars

I feel bad, I think I kind of opened the flood gates on the whole sarcastic, being mean posting...

But how long have you owned your FD?
