Keep at it Tom. That's the way it goes right?

teaser pic!

here's a test mount of the led rings + the "skinny style" acrylic diffuser rings mounted behind the lenses.

looks even better in person...hard to photograph with my iphone. they look SUPER bright in the pic, but in real life they aren't so blinding! in person they are nice perfect evenly-lit red rings. you DO NOT see individual led bulbs!

just gotta proper-mount them and close the lights back up.

the photo doesn't do it justice, also the light wasnt sealed up when i took this pic.

as soon as i get them all together, ill post pics.

cheers!

wow they look great! Somewhat it reminds me of the R34 skyline tail lights. Looking good. Now lets get everything assembled and take a snap shot of it... When do you take orders =)?

I need to see these in person, I see similar lights on newer cars but to me they look weird on the FD.

Tom when will you have these installed on your FD?

Guys, this is a project/show-off-how-cool-I-am thread..... please no discussion of orders, pricing etc or the thread will be closed. I'm sure if or when it moves to that level everyone will be aware of where to get them

Btw Tom, I don't want the lights but AM interested in those feet......

Those (not the feet) look really nice. Look forward to seeing them on the car. Nice job.

one more teaser pic for tonight...

heh i censored out the IM windows...TOP SECRET COMMUNICATIONZ!

i just tried them with the outer ring & center lit up...though i'm not sharing those pics yet. they look almost exactly like the mock-up images i posted in the very first post of this thread. even with the centers lit up, you can still clearly see the outer ring.

also in person, the brightness is equal to, maybe only slightly brither than stock.

more pics once i get them all back together.

hmmmm perhaps. i would have to check with my girlfriend on that. she's always changing the wallpaper on my computer...

rich, if you want i could make hello kitty faces instead of circles. that might match your tail pipe better.

I have a question, im sure you can answer it. There are 3 wires going to each breaklight. Black, Green, Red. Which is the normal light and which is breaklight?

Personally I don't know off the top of my head, but if you have a test light you can easily find out. I don't have my car here or I'd check for you.

truthfully i can't remember. i have my car in FL and i live in NY so i can't just walk outside and check either. i checked all the wires with a volt meter when i was in FL but of course i forgot write down which was which.

quick update on the led tails:

ive been trying to find the right "housing" for mounting the led ring & diffuser ring inside the tail housing. unfortunately it's rather hard, as nothing is 80mm. i checked home depot, the container store, even looked at bottles and cans at the grocery store. yeah i was the weirdo measuring the circumference of canned carrots on isle 12.

i decided to make something from scratch...i used very thing sheet aluminum with some short pop-rivets to make mounting rings in the size needed, and they actually turned out great.

ideally, i could use PVC pipe, however they don't sell metric sizes around anywhere so my diffuser rings don't fit (just a hair off!). if only i had access to a lathe...i could bore out the inner diameter of some 3" pvc pipe which would be perfect.

at this point im going to finish building the tails with aluminum, but i may make a second set using PVC once i get access to a lathe.

more pics soon.

Would something like this work?:

http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=5833505

Or you can order 80mm PVC from Australia:

yes that's pretty much what i need, but i didnt want to have to order it from half way across the world...also i'm not sure if that is 80mm OD or ID pipe...i think the fitting is 80mm ID and the pipe is 80mm OD

i need:
pipe with 80mm ID
and also:
pipe with 60mm OD

my friend Derrick from Advanced Race Technology has a lathe. i might call him up and ask if he can make me what i need...
