A problem starting my FD, thats a new one!

Ok my FD has been down for some time without starting it and one of the local rotoary guys told me that I should start it at least once every 2 weeks no matter how bad it smokes from blown turbos! so I went out to start my car after i went and got some oil and the battery was dead so i put my charger on start just to see if it would and nothing turned over but my rpms read 2k the first time i tryed and then i let it sit for about 45secs to see if i could build up enough power to start it and then when i turned the key it shot up to 3k but the motor didnt turn over at all! Im going to pull the starter and hope thats my problem but why is my rpm gauge doing that? The guy i talked to said somthing about carbon lock and i have no clue as to what that is but im guessing is when you have a locked motor from carbon but my motor only has 5k miles on it any suggestions of what it could be?

Sorry for the long post but thanks in advance for answers!

Was the motor actually turning? You might want to have someone watch under the hood to see if it's physically spinning.

If the engine is *REALLY* flooded, it will spin over very "smooth" with no "thump thump thump" of compression pulses.

If it's that flooded, you'll need to get some oil in the combustion chamber and build up compression. It can be tricky to start a really flooded engine - do a search, it's been covered to death.

Did the motor turn at all? Sounds like your starter may not be working. I say you get a buddy of yours and push start that SOB.

lol

It shouldnt be flooded but the compresion might be way down because it has sat for so long. today was the first time i have tryed to start it in a long time because of my blown turbos.

could most of the oil drained off the apex seals and into the pan and cause compresion problems?

A freind said he would come over to see what he thinks and see if its turning.

a weak battery can cause all kinds of weird issues. you put the key in Start and it did not turn over? but the tach moved? i would charge the battery somemore and see what happens.

^^yup

happened to me this past summer..since i always let the fans run for about 10-15 minutes after shutdown during the summer, my battery will become weak obviously..

one day i didnt take that into consideration, i went out to start the car to move it and it didnt start..it clicked and the rpm needle would jump up and down rapidly but nothing, motor didnt even turn or begin to turn..i thought it was the starter..i put a booster on the battery and voila..it started..
