Was hauling *** on the freeway, no warning or anything, good oil pressure ect. and reared up around 100 miles an hr at full throttle and all of a sudden the car dies, like if i shut it off with the key, suddenly turned off. I pulled over to the side and checked the engine, I saw nothing out of the ordinary or anything out of place. I tried to start the car again and it would not start. It sounds like it is trying to turn over but it doesn't. I had enough gas, oil, charge ect.. Any guess? fuel pump, alternator, some electrical problem??

 

If it doesnt turn over it then its most likely your battery and a dead alternator.

 

Compression check?

 

yeah... make sure you didn't loose your alternator belt there. If it's still there check to see if it slips. Those are the only obvious things. But hey it's an RX7 the damn things are full of bullshit surprises.......LoL....Good Luck

 

But I dont understand what you mean "It sounds like it is trying to turn over but it doesn't" ?

Does the starter turn the engine and it almost fires up OR starter cant turn the engine ?
Did you loose electricity in the car (i.e. radio shutting off) when this happened ? (pointing to a bad fuse?)

 

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Another thing to check is your EGI fuse. Mine kept popping because I had a short. In my case the OMP harness had been cut by the main pulley (or at least one wire of it) and was shorting out on the block causing the short. Just an idea.

Didn't loose electricity, and the starter turns the motor but it doesnt sound like anything is igniting, it just sputters.....

Basically the starter turns the engine but it doesnt start it up. I had all use of my electricity, radio, interior light ect.. It kind of sounds like i am out of gas and trying to start the car?

 

Then start with checking fuses under the hood.

 

Fuses, check all carefully.

 

could be fuel pump, or clogged fuel filter.................

 

ok so it sat all day wile i was at wrok and then i went ot try and start it again for ***** and giggles... starter churnin away and poof a fire ball? but didn't turn over

 

Make sure u have spark at the coils and if so maybe u should check ur plugs and wires
and do a compresion check wihile your at it

 

ok so im almost positive it's getting fuel. tried turnin it over again then ran back to the tail pipe and mmmm gas fumes.. so shes getting fuel what would cause it not to fire over bad coils,etc...all the fuses that i can find seem to be ok.. if any body local would like to come take a look that would be sweet!!!

Check if you are getting any spark.

If car doesnt start its either because its not getting fuel, or doesnt have anything to ignite that fuel. You already said its getting fuel... so... check the electrical side.

 

Get some new Sparks and change them, although you say they seem ok just try it all the same?? Hopefully should fire up, while you are there put some injector cleaner in too.

 

ok so it has spark has fuel ,haven't looked at the plugs yet I had a friend tow me so i could try and turn it over in 3rd gear got her runnin but ran like **** really ruff and if you let the gas off shell die on yeah and won't start again unless towed.. you can hear the compresion through the exhaust but im gonna try and get my hands on a gauge. what kind of code reader does this car take ????

i have a similar problem, but less severe, will idle extremely rough sometimes stalls out, but any advice would be greatly appreciated

 

hmm extremely rough idle, i would get ahold of a compression tester. Startin to sounds like a low compression thing if it cranks but wont start and you have fuel and spark.....heres hopin for you!
