Question Probably blown but I am in denial... What do you think?

Hey guys. I installed my Trust Airinx intake one night when I was kind of arguing with my wife... she was going crazy saying I spend more time with the 7 and I had to tell her it's a friggin rx7 get with the program; hehe jk. Anyways I wasnt at my best when installing. So I finished and went to sleep.

Next morning while getting ready I started the 7 to warm it up before I left. Finished getting ready hopped in the 7 and started driving towards the Autobahn. Once I got to the Autobahn I floored it so I could destroy some BMW and I did. I started to get in a foggier area and merged to the right lane and slowed down. After about 5-10seconds of idling down in speed the car started running rough and wasnt pulling as hard so I turned on the hazards and got in the emergency lane.

I've been reading every 7 forum and researching non stop for the past 3-4 weeks since this happened before I started typing this. So car starts just fine still. I changed the plugs and wires. Also just now I noticed it has a lot of smoke coming from the turbo area right under the intakes. Oh and I did the poor mans compression test and the front rotor is blowing air just fine and the rear one doesnt seem as strong but doesnt have any pauses with the air coming out. Any Ideas? Get over denial and get it rebuilt?

CLIFFS: Installed intake fast, went to bed, drove it next day, floored it and then started cruising, now runs rough but starts fine on first try.

How's the boost pattern, does it still behave semi-normally or does it refuse to build boost?

I think it builds boost because when I rev it and let go the blow off valve vents and I can hear the turbos spooling.

Have you seen Ghostbusters 2? your Airinx intakes must have some slime in them and the argument with the wife made it bubble and cause your problems. lol jk

I had a gasket break on my twins before and it sounded horrible. it also boosted poorly. a blown engine still would route all the exhaust out the tail pipe (unless it was a coolant seal lol)

I would treat that exhaust leak as a separate issue for a moment, i could be wrong, but see where thats coming from.

Runs rough? idles rough or drives rough? or both?

Doh, beat to it, haha. If it idles/starts fine, just runs rough it could be a boost/vacuum leak or a bad turbo. This is where a boost/vacuum gauge would be very useful.

Both and Sorry forgot to mention I have to tap the gas to keep it running but it does start!

Yeah its both. I see if I can find any auto shops here in Germany that I could purchase a boost gauge from just to connect to the UIM and see.

Thanks for your repeat/quick responses guys!

EDIT: Just rememered two more things I did that are retarded. I put some Two Cycle oil in the gas tank before I went to bed and I accidently touched pos+ to neg- on the battery and there was a spark and a quick shock to me, hehe. I just gotta breath and take things slow and work with the 7 when I am all there and thinking straight.

The running rough/foot on the gas isn't a good sign. You can check for all the obvious (vacuum hoses blown off/cracked/missing) and hopefully get lucky, but a real compression check would be ideal in that case.

I had issues with my supercharged lancer where I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running at idle (really hard to do when your coming up to a red light and have to work all three pedals lol). I found that it was a busted vaacum hose. I also figured out that everytime I disconnect the battery my piggy back for some reason resets the toon to stock and runs horribly for a couple days including the stalling out when at idle. I dont know if your running anything like that and if the battery terminals getting "connected" would have anything to do with it.

those two retarded actions wont hurt this situation. unless you dumped a gallon of 2 cycle into your gas tank lol.

Yeah when i blew my apex seal, i had to keep my foot on the pedal to idle it. I love that you can blow an engine but still drive it home. Sadly, that lets denial kick in.

Why dont you do a real compression test and then post the numbers?

and just to make sure, check the MAP sensor. but i would recommend a real compression test as well.

Compression test http://banzai-racing.com/compression_test.htm

Check the vacuum hose going to the MAP sensor

Yeah she did and grabbed the funnel and took a leak in it too hehe!

Someone on the forums here told me about a shop in Stuttgart, Germany and I contacted them. They want 3000 euros to rebuild it. Shoot I will sell it to whoever comes by with 2000-2200 euros and tows it away.

I am a computer guy but I am not sure if I could handle rebuilding it. I was thinking of picking up a shortblock in England and driving it back to Germany. See some for sell for 500gbp.

Anyways thanks all for the responses.
