Primary turbo boost issues
Hello,
Just had a problem with the boosting with the primary turbo im suspecting.
When im boosting through the lower rpms before the secondary comes on I can hear a "whoooommmppp" sound (kinda hard to explain) but Its only going to about 5PSI.....
I can hear the noise comming from the driver side probboly under the IC piping elbow somewhere.
Could this be a boost leak from a broken hose?

does your secondary turbo boost 10 psi? or is it just 5 from 4500 rpm on?
Or does the car only make 5 psi all the time? If that is the case I would look for a cracked coupler or IC hose. I have even had some crack the crossover pipe.

Helped me troubleshoot my boost issues. With enough time/patience it can be working perfectly again. (Click 'troubleshooting' at the top of that page...)

Drove the car again today and I didnt have any problems with boost at all... Very strange...
I did have the A/c On tho today...
Yesterday I could hear a loud whooshing sound as i was boosting, but today i didnt hear it at all..
Could it be something stuck open sometimes?
What would cause my primary to not spool up sometimes due to being stuck open/closed....???

could be the flapper valve/door inside the y-pipe. I believe it is called the charge control actuator.( I have been away from the twins for awhile so my termenology is a little foggy.
Follow the link above to the troubleshooting sites. They are endless sources of knowledge. Then go and perform the test on the car . Most all of the tests needed are simple in nature to perform. You must first gain an understanding for how each component works and how it ties into the whole system. If nothing else, you learn about your car and where things are and what they do.
As far as checking for boost leaks. You basically need to take off the components involved. IC, IC hoses, crossover pipe, intake elbow, and all couplers. Then inspect each one for craks or tears. Manipulate the pieces so you can see if there are hidden cracks or tears that only show up under load. A favorite one to crack is the coupler coming off the y-pipe to the crossover pipe..alot of heat in that area.
