Primary Noise On Spool

Hi all,

On the drive home after a track I noticed a new noise in my JDM FD.

It's in line with the primary turbo spooling up and sounds low a low pitch sports ref whistle. Strangely though, I'm still getting all 12 psi of boost and car is driving great.

Pulled apart the intake side of things to look for loose bits and pieces. Most important of all, make sure the primary isn't stuffed.

At first I was hoping it was a loose bolt somewhere along the primary side that's causing the sound.
(Similar to https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/noise-secondary-turbo-854879/).

But looking around the front of the primary turbo, all the bolts seemed tight, so that couldn't be it.

Got to the primary turbo. Looks good to me, no shaft play.

I tried to record the sound. Didn't really come out but here it is anyway..

Next up, I'm thinking maybe a bad gasket somehwere? Check valve whistling? Crack manifold?
(Similar to this: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/real-loud-wirring-noise-under-boost-stock-turbos-729491/)

Any suggestions?

We really can't hear it in your video. Those are usually leaks somewhere that creates that high pitch noise.

It might be your charge relief valve also causing the noise if it stops as soon as the secondary turbo kicks in.

If you are in neutral and rev it, can you hear it?

Its probably a minor boost leak. Check the entire charge pipe run between the turbos and the throttle body. Remove and throughly inspect every boost coupler.

Nopes. Can't hear it when reving in neutral.

I have replaced one of the valves today with a Viton and the sound is still there. Will continue and change the other ones and see how I go.

Interestingly the Mazda valve I replaced makes a low whistle when I blow into it. Is that normal?

I will be redoing the vaccuum lines shortly because of this.

Should I use some gasket sealant as I go?

Any more possible suggestions?
