Price check
Hey guys,
Been a long while since I've been on the forums, but i think its finally time to get me an rx7. Looking at a local one with 88k miles, SSM, body has no dents no dings, all stock except exhaust and a Megan radiator. only minor scratches on the hood otherwise paint is in ok condition.
The bad, engine wont start, and guy doesnt know why, what would be a good base price to ask for, comes with stock rims and some XXR 527s.
lemme know what yall think

The engine won't start? Could mean a rebuild, or its flooded. Check out the FAQ for good tips on buying a used Rx7. Compression test, boost test, and leaks are some of the serious things to look for.
Price ranges are hard to determine. A solid running, low mileage, stock FD with a generally cherry condition goes for ~$16-17,000.
A Blown motor or a rolling shell is usually $5-8000 depending on condition.
Check the for sale section for some real time pricing.

It indeed isn't, just verified that it has been repainted, I will have to go check out the turbos and see the condition, pretty sure with that many miles on og engine its pretty well done, talked him down to 8k but he owes 11 on it which is no good for him. He said he could get a personal loan to cover the rest, but I dont know, seems a little pricey still.

Unless the paint work is truly great and the interior is in great shape (and you really like the whole dark silver on red interior thing), I would walk away at $8k.
If you have a reputable shop rebuild the engine (if it's salvageable), turbos and do all the labor, you're gonna be looking at probably $15-16k total. That's about what you're gonna end up paying for a clean, well sorted, fresh engine FD anyway. There's a couple of good examples for sale in the classified section being sold by reputable sellers. Take a gander.
Guess it also matters why the engine won't start. If it's got compression (you're not gonna get great numbers since it's a cold engine but you'll know if it would be able to run), it might be worth trying to squeeze some time out of it.

trying to get him to go down on the price significantly, I can do the majority of the labor myself, taking the engine in and out and such, but rebuilding a rotary....would know my **** from a hole in the ground, rebuild some piston engines, and I like to say I'm very able to do some mechanical work......buuutttttt, not even gonna attempt to rebuild that engine lol. I think I might find out if Allrotor (member from here) knows of some good shops around that I could drop the engine off at, if I end up getting it. No play in the turbo shaft at all(front turbo), so that's a good sign for the turbos, wish he would have left it factory SSM, but the paint and body are perfect, aside from some clown sitting on the hood and scraping it with his buttons, very minor, could probably take my buffer and some compound to fix that. figure if i can get it for 7, pineapple or pettit which are obviously good expensive choices cost around 4k for a fresh build if I read right, about 11k plus say 1500 random parts that I may or may not need as a buffer, 12.5, I think is fair.
I already own 2 cars so it would definitely not be a "I need this car now!!" kind of deal. decisions decisions...
