Pretty sure I just blew my coolant seals...

Driving home yesterday seemed to run a little funny, water temps were fine, vacuum was fine but felt like the engine was shaking I thought it was the engine brace at first till the car just died out. The coolant overflow needed to be filled, when I start it smoke comes from the turbo area of the engine and out of the exhaust. I will post back to tell you what it is for sure but I am almost sold on the coolant seals being gone!

Does the exhaust smell like candy? What color is the smoke?

Sounds more like a blown apex seal, rather than a coolant seal. Get a compression check.

I have to agree with you... I am very positive on it being a blown apex seal, I will be getting a comp check within a day or 2...

Started to rip it down, just have to remove the manifolds unhook the injectors and take everything off the front of the motor. I never thought it would be this easy but it is...

The PS pulley is a bitch if you don't have an impact gun or a special tool to hold it in place. If you rig something up to hold the pulley you will probably crack it... it's plastic. Other than that it's straight fwd.

Download the FSM and it will give you step by step tear down instructions. Print out the engine removal/overhaul/install section. Worth the ink/paper or money at kinkos.

Just out of curiosity, what were the numbers on your compression test for both rotors?

Also, what were you doing to suspect or cause the apex seal damage, ie. how fast were you driving and for how long?

I take it your planning on rebuilding the engine yourself or send it somewhere?

Were you running 2mm or 3mm seals?

How about pics of your teardown?

Rear rotor has 65psi

Did a a few pulls seemed to run fine smoke poured out once but went away... went on the parkway engine was already shaking cruising at 80 it didnt want to run so I pulled over n trailered it home

I will be taking the short block to JPR Imports he's treated me well, I've known him for a few years so he knows what I want and does great work!

Engine was a reman from mazda according to the previous owner so should be 2mm seals...

Pic's? I took some to reference when I put it back together, tomorrow I will take current pics and post em up for you guys to look at...

Plans for the build will be a street ported with 3mm seals, Dee from Reactive Racing made a large from turbo utilizing a t4 flange so I will be putting that on, Gotham Racing has a V-mount kit for 1300 or whatever so I am deciding between that and a 3 row Greddy Fmic but I think I will be going V-mount. ACT Streetlight flywheel, and a Water injection setup...

I want to make some real numbers here... I will be replacing motor, tranny, and diff mounts and a hole lot more... time will tell

If your not planning on doing away with the pwr/steering or ac just move them to the side.
