! Pressure test even NEW solenoids !

Since I was having weird boost patterns, esp. after high-RPMs, I used Dave Disney's write-up to check my charge control and turbo control solenoids in the dreaded rat's nest:

http://rx7.voodoobox.net/howto/solen...oid_check.html

BOTH we're not responding well (quick bleed-off) to 12-15 psi.

As Dave said, even his NEW ones did NOT pass his pressure test.

I ordered all new solenoids, and ONLY TWO of them passed out of eight (8) NEW solenoids from Mazda.

Of the six (6) that did not pass, two (2) were questionable and four (4) just stayed closed for 3-5 seconds after releasing 12VDC.

In short, PRESSURE test ALL SOLENOIDS.

:-( neil

BTW: when will Saxyman990 get his external solenoid kits out:

FWIW: I was able to replace both the charge control and turbo control solenoids WITHOUT removing the rat's nest, using some long and curved hemostats.

You are crazy...BTW i also bought a new tcs and had the same behaviour as yours...It seems that the oem solenoids are not designed to work after 12-14 psi(but the black box solenoids work even to 17 psi).

I believe he's talking about the 99+ "black box" replacement for the rats nest.

The black box solenoids use EXACTLY the same operator as the original 93 solenoids (which, by the way use extremely similar operators to the 79 solenoids). New, they should be able to withstand much higher pressures (I've tested them at 20+psi). Usually, the problem is that the capability of older solenoids begin to deminish. Of course, Neil is pointing out that even new ones are having problems.

My replacement kit is almost ready...

So will your replacement kit replace ALL the solenoids or just the rats nest?
