Pressure Plate Hitting Inside of bell housing

I have put this tranny in and out about 12 times, ill break it down as simple as possible. I put a new motor in decided to put the tranny in speceratly. Since my old ACT PP was getting old i bought a new ACT 6 puck cluch and am attempting to put it in, i also got the flywheel machined. I mount the PP and Disk on the Flywheel (hub on disk facing out.) Jack the tranny up and line up the spline with the pilot bearing and slide it in. I get all the bolts started and tighten the down. I got to turn the Flywheel to tighen the PP bolts and the motor is locked up. So i back off the bolts a bit about 2-3 threads and it will turn but with some force. I can hear the PP scrapping against the bell housing as you turn it around. If you tighten it back up the motor locks up again. So i pulled the tranny and i can see the scrapes on the bell housing. Its like the PP is sitting to far back words in the bell housing. There are only 2 1/2 threads showing on the Flywheel nut and the eccentric shaft nut is still tight. What else can cause the PP to rub on the bell housing. I also messure the depth of the PP and they are idnetical. What the #$%! am i missing and doing wrong, please help im going to go insain!!! Ok maybe to late. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Marc

did you engage the dowell pins into the holes in the PP . You should be able to start all the 6 bolts even if the PP is rubbing the bell housing .

aren't you bolting the pressure plate down before you put the trans up? if not the pressure plate won't be flush against the flywheel and could cause the rubbing.

you said you had to turn the flywheel to tighten the pressure plate bolts, why wouldn't you have it bolted down all the way before you put the trans in?

Problem was solved. He stated he had the clutch disk installed backwards.

got that much, but still confused as to why wouldn't you have the pressure plate bolted down completely before putting the trans back up?

if I recall correctly, the ACT instructions I saw said 33 ft/lbs on the pressure plate bolts. But that was on a Ford Probe GT. So, check your instructions for a torque specification.
