power steering pump eating belt - help!
ok, i've changed and tried a new belt, retorqued everything, but when the car is running, the power steering pulley is pulling the belt (the first groove) off of the pulley , towards the front of the car.
if i turn the engine over with a socket, the belt moves through nice and smooth. but as soon as it picks up speed with the engine running, it pulls it off of the first groove.
any ideas?
thanks

Your pulleys are out of alignment for some reason. It could be that the thing the PS pump is mounted to is loose or bent, or that the pump itself is just loose from its mount. Release the tension on the belt and see if you can move anything around.
