Question Power Steering Pulley Bearing fix?

So the bearing behind the pulley of the power steering pump is noisy. Is there a way to replace that in situ - without removing and rebuilding the entire PS pump?

Thanks.

I don't think the bearing could be replaced in place. I've never had to mess with my FD's PS pump, but I rebuilt my S5 FC's pump. They are similar design, so I don't see how that can be done with the FD. At the very least, you'll need to get the pump out of the car and on a work bench; even so I'm pretty sure you'll need to open up the pump to press the bearing out.

Thanks Pete. I had seen your FC thread and was hoping for an easier solution.

I remember there was a thread where someone found the bearing.

Removing the pump isn't too hard, hardest part really is removing the plastic pulley without breaking it and removing the hidden bolt in the back that holds it in place. Besides that there are 3 bolts in the front under the pulley and the 2 lines, those are easy.

I'm in for a PS pump replacement or rebuild in the near future myself. Is there still a decent rebuild kit available? Or will I be going to the bearing supply house for parts?

Years ago, a friend of mine replaced their FD pump with one from another Mazda (and not the 929). Does anyone know what else may be compatible? He cant remember what it was from.

This 11 year old thread that I added to the FAQ a few years has the part number for the power steering bearing:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...-pump-1008725/
Looks to be this bearing: https://www.mcmaster.com/6153K77/

The author also posted a pn for the rebuild kit from your local auto parts store.

@1badFB Given the pics in the thread above, I suspect is might be a 626.

Seems like @JP3 Motorsports might offer a rebuild service too... It looks blingalicious.

Thanks. That price hurts! I bought this low mileage pump a number of years ago for $50 and swapped it on during the engine replacement. Times change...
