Power FC installer/tuner - maryland

I have been struggling with 3000 hesitation and/or intermittent stuttering with my stock '93 RX. Dealer replaced/cleaned existing grounds, performed throttle bottle service & replaced plugs. Since the hesitation/stuttering is still occuring under moderate to strong acceleration - usually in 1st, 2nd & 3rd (not usually in 4th or 5th), I am thinking of taking the car to a professional RX tuner and even having them install the much talked about Apexi Power FC in hopes of eliminating this condition.

Does anyone know of a reputable and talented shop or authorized dealer in or near Baltimore, MD?

I had another 93 that never had this, so I am bummed to be experiencing it with this one!

Thanks in advance for any help on this

Do you have any contact info for Rotor Dee? Either email or phone?

Also, I received a couple of replies & just wondering if any of them are actual shops that warranty their work?

Thanks

check the regional forums for rotary mechanics in your area. Reactive is very reputable from what I've heard and offers good tuning.

As far as warrantying work, what kind of work are you talking about? Most reputable shops stand by their work within reason. Many of us are Do It Yourselfers of varying degrees of skill. I don't think there is a shop out there that hasn't had someone come in after ******* up their car trying to mod it and blaming them for the problem.

If you are talking about a rebuild or something, you can probably forget about it. Most builders will stand by their work, but will not "warranty" it outright. Nor should they. Who is to say that you didn't grab the Power FC commander and jumped up the boost to some dumb level and then returned it to the original setting claiming their work was faulty. Or replaced the stock cat with a mid-pipe w/o retuning. Just read some of the posts on here about half assed mods and you can understand why most places will not outright warranty something.

When you do find a good shop, stay with them and work together with the shop owner to achieve the results that you want.

I've been working with Joe from J&R aka smokinjoeracing.net since before I bought the car w/ a blown motor. He answered my dumb newbie questions about the car, rebuilt the motor advising me about mods to forget about while the car was in build stage and replaced all the stuff that should be replaced when building a motor - like fuel lines and cleaned oil lines and such.

Good luck.

Thanks - No I am not talking about rebuild work or extensive mods. I simply want to solve my 3000k hesitation/stuttering problem with my stock 93 and since I have taken it to my local mazda dealer 3 times for the same complaint, I want to try something different.

Does anybody have any feedback on: www.performancebuyers.com - located in Chantilly, VA? I am really looking for a shop as opposed to a do-it-yourselfer and no....I don't plan to even attempt to F**K up my car myself and then ask someone to fix it.

Hoping just to find someone to cure the problem.

Thanks!

Replace all your grounds and the problem will go away. Do a search on hyper-grounding. I think Damian has a good write up.

If its install the ecu, that is the easiest mod you can do, you remove the kick panel on the passenger side, unscrew the stock ecu, unplug it, and plug in PFC and replace the kick panel and you are done.

I probably would not recommend Performance Buyers. They sell parts and are not rotary specialists. Most of us have all learned that the dealer is useless which is why we seek out rotary specialists. You have a higher chance of getting it right the first time and not getting frustrated about a problem like you have been.

Even if you do not want to do it yourself, I do recommend that you search here on the 3000 rpm hesitation to get an idea of the different causes. That way you understand what could be involved.

If you don't want to bother doing that, then I would check out the people that were already recommended as they have a good reputation in the rotary community. Also check the regional forums as their is a Sticky there with all the mechanics in the NE including around you.

Demetrios/Reactive Racing is your best bet around the MD area. Great guy, and he is very knowledgable.
