powdercoating pics

i've been busy powdercoating a bunch of stuff, random stuff from the silvia and from the FD

hope you guys like it

i'm willing to powder anyones stuff, just contact me via aim, gimp2x or pm

http://www.planetblur.org/~bkthomps/

the UIM/LIM have a few rough spots, but who cares, i gave up sanding it all smooth and just powdered it

it will look good, nobody will be close enough to inspect as well as these photos do

pics of our homemade blast cabinet can be found in there...it's quite nice, and has a glass hood on the top

I've been told to check your local yellow pages and it's about $30 a wheel. But I personally can't believe that price.

The powder coating price can depend on different things. If it needs to be stripped, the color, and clear coat.
Id say $200 for a set of 4 wheels to be stripped and powdercoated in black is a decent price.

you'll need a blasting cabinet, sand blaster (glass bead preferred), air compressor, powdercoating system, powder, oven

you sandblast it, sand it smooth, clean it, dry it, charge it with electrons, blast charged powder onto it, bake in oven for 20mins @400F

take it out, let it cool

if it's chromed, you have to clear the chrome, so it's double the work

My aftermarket wheels have been powder coated and I bought them that way. They were either chrome or polished silver before this. i asked this question but no one has answered it before, can I take the powder coating off so the wheel can look like what it was before it was coated? Or is it, once you go powder caoted you can never go back?

EDIT: NM I found out you can't, DAMN IT!

you can take it off, but you'd have to blast it, which would kill the polish

however, you could blast it with walnut shells or a light glass bead, it might do the trick

Mist be the same guys that owns MAACO.

There is a difference in powder coating quality and finish.

U get what u pay for in life and powder coating is no exception.

Most of the $$$$ goes into the labor to prep it........

not really, most of the money goes in the multiple coats (one coat color one coat clear) for wheels...

Not sure if u have seen my wheels, but my guy didn't need a clear coat for the gloss black.

Some other powder, such as that near chrome look requires a clear coat.

I am having my doors, fenders, hood and perhaps my sunroof powder coated gloss black. I got the doors and and it's really shiny.

All of your stuff looks awesome. I love the blue turbos, different, but good looking.

I also like how you have the parts all over the house. UIM on the couch, rim in the oven, turbos in the garage. It's like your FD owns the house, you just live there.

I got my wheels powder coated my someone in Cincinnati.. He worked at a place where they made powder coating machines..

My wheels came out perfect!! same or better than most OEM wheels.. He has some special way of charging the wheel so that the powder attatches the wheel.. I don't know how all works..

They had some picnic chairs and random stuff in there last time I had gone by there and it is very nice quality.

The stuff looks great but I can't believe that it looks like you are using your oven in the kitchen.

I have a good friend that ruined the oven in his house, and purportedly nearly poisoned his family by using the oven in his kitchen. He was told by poison control that many people poison themselves doing the same thing.

Aren't there warnings to use a specific oven and to have it in a well ventilated area?

Otherwise, the stuff looks great.

Haha yeah i know, I'm not too good in english. That's what the card said so that's what I put down. Didn't feel like grammar checkin their business card. And even though it is "Nashville" and "Hillbilly USA" it's still a good shop.

umm, you can't powder something that hasn't been either glass or sand blasted....i use glass on alumnium and pieces that aren't rusted, it gives a smoother finish than sand, i sand blast rusted, cast iron, or steel items

acid dip is the last alternative and is better for greasy items, because if you blast grease, it pushes it into the metal
