Question Powder Coating Question

I am about to ship somethings off to the powder coating shop but i was told by someone that i could not powder coat the throttle body on my FD, is this correct?

I just want to verify before i ruin something or have to come up with different plan for it. Thanks for any help

Do not powder coat it without removing everything off of it first, I learned the hard way, I didn't know there were small plastic bushings on the inside of the springs and the oven melted them, rendering the TB useless...

Where are you planning on getting your items coated? I see that you are in Charlotte. We have a local place in Denver called Calico Coatings. I've used them and they do excellent work plus you can drop it off and pick it up yourself.

as a rule whenever youre going to deal with powder coating, nothing rubber or plastic can be on the piece. in able to get a good solid coating, the whole item needs to be cleaned (normally media blasting) and pre-baked (heated up to release any oil or anything trapped in the piece) in able to get a good solid reliable powder coat.
when doing anything suspension wise, this means ball joints, bushings, plastic spacers, but this applies for anything getting powder coated
you CAN pc the throttle body, but unless youre an expert on them, where you can dis-assemble and re-assemble one blind, then just leave it alone lol

Calico does ceramic coating and most of the rotary shops in the area use them. I use Southern Collision Center for powder coating because they are good and cheap! I live in Waxhaw, which isn't too far from Indian Trail. How was the work from Drake Coating?

The end results will look like this!

I am a little addicted to powder coating and plating! I think if you decide to go ahead, you will be very pleased, and yes all parts must be totally disassembled and cleaned prior to being powder coated. What color are you thinking?

Best

guys I ceramic chrome many parts and was recommended not to ceramic chrome the T/B so I polished it .all the work was done by SPORTTUNER.COM they are great with communication and excellent with there work I highly recommended it. they did an awesome job with my parts. They disassembled many parts including my Throttle body and nickel plated many parts on it that included polishing as well. They also did my alternator and upgraded it to 140amp. These guys do it all. Ask for Anthony Bulger, he's the man!

Care & Maintenance Information for Finishes

SportTuner finishes are designed to give you years of service. Most coatings will just need to be cleaned with soap and water. We do not recommend using any harsh abrasives or toxic chemicals on the finished areas as this may lead to premature failure of the finish.

Cerama-Chrome Coatings will maintain a chrome like appearance until it is heated over 1600 degrees. At which time the finish will fade away. The Ceramic material will stay however the aluminum layer on the outside will begin to break down and dull. This aluminum can be brought back to shine by a few simple steps. First rub a clean piece of Steel Wool on the faded area. Then apply a liquid metal polish (We recommend Wenol in the Red Tube.) to the same area. Use a clean polishing cloth and work in the metal polish then use a clean polishing cloth to polish out the same area and wipe off away the metal polish applied. If you continue to burn off the aluminum exterior over time the finish will no longer be able to be brought back to a shine. However the part will still retain the Heat Soak protection of the ceramic material.

Stanc3, why are you running a TII UIM with what seems to be a NA-REW...? (judging by the water pump housing/power steering etc, if I'm wrong it could be that I'm staring at this on my phone...)

Either way, I'm curious...

I've powder coated a few small bits and pieces and I've always loved they way they turn out. I need to get a large crappy oven so I can start doing stuff myself.
