Thumbs up Is it possible to have a 93 R2?

well i am currently looking at this rx7 and he said that his car was a 93 r2. I always thought that r2's were only offered in 94 and 95. So again, is it possible to have a 93 r2? thanks for your inputs...

No, it isn't. in 1993 only R1, base and Touring were offered. R2 was in 94-95 and was an R1 model with a softer suspension.

Well technically i think you can. Though the cars was sold in the 93 year, some of the cars were made in 92. Mine is one of these cars. Take a quick check of the information in the door jam to find this out. I will get a pic to show you my 92 FD.

It was likely built in 93 as a 94 model. Usually the build date for the following year starts somewhere around July. Anything built after that is the following year. If it has a passenger side airbag it is indeed a 94.

and just in case you didnt know, R1 is from 93 model year, R2 is same thing except a few minor changes and is a 94-95 model year.

Well, technically if you swapped 94-95 suspension to a 93, then technically it would be an R2, technically speaking of course. But in actuality, you would have a 93 R1 with 94-95 suspension upgrade (or downgrade).

Well, I seriously doubt the car in question is Jspec... but I could be wrong.

Actually Technically you would still have a R1 with R2 suspension, The car is still technically a R1. There are all the intierior changes as well but even if you did ALL the swaps including the rear subframe with the '94 up support bars welded in.... you'd still have a '93

At this point with the car's age it really doesn't matter. I'd look for one in the best condition and go with that one. The R2 did have a slightly softer ride but 12 years down the road stuff gets old. The R2 had a few improvements over the '93 (all '94-'95 cars) that may be worth looking for one, mostly the change of plastic inside and a passenger air bag. The rear suspension supports are nice too.
