Possible to buy brand new OEM seats from Mazda?

I am looking to buy a used FD but every single one I go see needs to have the seats replaced. This is something I knew was going to be an issue since these cars are far from new. I am not interested in aftermarket seats. I would like to buy a brand new set thru Mazda but I don't even know if it’s possible.

Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

Thanks

you can probably order them thru the parts department. factory definitely still makes fd accessories, so i'd imagine all the parts too. problem is, to order these seats new, you'd probably end up paying the same amount as you would if you got recaros or brides. ok maybe i'm exaggerating, but oem stuff now is very expensive. best to just post on the forum and someone's bound to have a pair in decent shape

but if you insist, malloy mazda is supposedly friendly to us forum folks w/ discounts. do a search to find their #

If your actual seat frame/cushion isn't damaged, you can order some seat skins.

Yeah I know all about those. They are a real PITA to tighten up the leather to keep the OEM look. I honestly can not be bothered for the difference in price.

For the base/r1/r2, about $2,000 a seat, touring is about $2,800 a seat. Go to that site and you'll see the actual retail price (even higher)

The new seat skins in R1 material cost $2000. (That's for both sides, from Malloy)

Use sturdy snips for removing the skins, and installing them isn't hard if you have hogring pliers.

The drivers bolster on my 93 touring is worn through in the normal place. I was considering the seat covers that are on RX-7.com, having a upohlstery shop repair the area or buying an upper skin from Mazda.

Anyone have these options actually done?

Agreed, crap. I had a local upholstery shop redo my driver's seat in my 90 Vert and they did an awesome job. I had the same shop do my tan leather driver's seat in my FD and they screwed it up badly the first time and it still isn't perfect after the second time. If I ever switch seats, I'll be getting these (Sparco Milano in Tan Leather $1300/each):

Those are very nice but everyone keeps saying the Millano's won't fit in the FD.

Has anybody been successful installing these seats?

Some pics would be great too. Just because they might "fit" does not mean it will look good. Having huge seats in a small interior might look funny.

Yes, I've heard the same thing. I've always figured that if one were willing to spend the time to do it right, they would work. Maybe I'm crazy...

I think the base of the Milano/Torino seat would be too wide, just eyeballing it.

Your best bet would probably be an experienced upholstery shop.

Did ya have a change of heart there on new OEM seats?? LOL

I also looked at getting the new seat skins but it was ungodly expensive ($2000+ for both seats) and probably would not come out as good as the factory ones would have looked new, waste of money.

You will probably be able to order the OEM seats through the factory seeing they still make FD parts and accesories. They will be very expensive though.

Probably will cost you as much as a nice set of Bride or Recaro's. Good luck.

you could also get some Mazdaspeed Type F sport seats from corksport, but thats if you are looking to stay close to the mazda brand and i'm sure they fit well.

Best bet is to find a local upholstery shop that can work with you. Show them the seats, and let them know just what you want. They can re-do the seat skins with a MUCH higher grade of leather than what Mazda used. Mazda's never been famous for using good leather on their seats - that's why they're all worn out .

You could buy the OEM skins for a fortune, then have them wear out as well. No thanks .

You'd be surprised what a good upholstery shop can do, and for a reasonable price most times.

Well thats some good advice, Thanks!

I guess plan A is going to get them re-upholstered and if that does not workout then I might go with a set of black mazdaspeed type-f seats.

If/when you get a quote from an upholstery shop for making/installing new custom leather skins, you might want to compare it against the price of of getting skins from www.leatherseats.com and having the upholstery shop just install them.
