Poor mans non-Seq. My Experience.

So as you may know if you have been following my threads i have had boost issues for awhile. Well i purchased a manual boost controller and got it corrected. However i wanted to try Non seq so i did the converstion tonight. Before the converstion i was running 11psi.. My boost pattern was 11-7/8-10. (Dont bother preaching to me about why i should stay with sequentials!! i know my boost pattern is great.)

Anyhow after about 30 mins of work i did the poormans non-seq.. And i actually liked it!!! The lowend punch was history but not un-bearable like some people make it out to be. When the twins spool they kick very nicely! i did 2 runs and wow.... the car Held boost perfectly. 10psi by 3500. I ended up loving it so much i never switched it back... Im going to drive it like this for a few more days @10psi to see if i like it or not.. So me being the ballzy guy i am i Turned up the boost to 13psi for a few runs ..

One added benifit of this is i can see my self saving on fuel since i dont get into boost unless i romp it!... So that being said... If you get bored one day.. Give it a try!!

i been non seq for over a year now and there are times where it sucks..

especially in a city where people are in a damn rush..if you dont stomp the gas as soon as the light turns green, people will be on your ***!!!

that being said, i take the roads to work where lots of people are, that way, i have to go slow and people cant do **** haha

but on the highway?? forget about it, i feel like im going into the future..

Not to rain on anyones parade, but I am in the middle of doing the full non-sequential. It is taking a little longer than expected, but then, I'm an **** engineer. I'm also getting rid of all the emissions, TB coolant etc. But for anyone who is planning on doing it the irreversible way, give yourself some time. This is not one you want ot rush at the end and half *** it up. When I get done, I'm going to RX7 store to have them tune it on the dyno. If anyone ie interested, I'll post the results.

Oh hell yea the "full" non seq is a differnt ball of wax. Much more involved. The main reason why i tried it and shared my experience with everyone was so if someone IS having boost issues they know they can easily fall back on non seq. Or if someone wants to try it out they know what to expect. Typically stock for stock non seq has more midrange power, But after Transition Sequential is the same... And on the other side of the spectrum Sequential has assloads more lowend power. So there is a give and take situation there.

RX7wishing, not to doubt you, but your 10PSI@3,500RPM is unheard of from all of the poor-mans threads that I have read (especially with your stock main-cat in place). Are you sure your boost gauge is accurate?

Definately worth it if you can get away w/ a mid-pipe...It gets rid of alot of headaches. Especially w/ a good street-ported motor. Feels good to get that little extra @ top end..

Did you go non-seq because on an unsolvable seq problem or what....why else would you remove 2000 rpm of powerband?

You should try it full non-seq if you like the poors man way. When I did mine I ported the manifold a bit. I don't know if that helps but I know I see 12 psi by 3500 rpm. I was just like you. I tried the poors man and I loved it, so I went the full way whan I replaced my vaccum lines, much cleaner too.

How do you have your boost controller hooked up? You are just using 1 controller right? Do you have any pics of the contoller? I have major boost problems and I am going to do the conversion. I just need to know how to hook up the BC and what nipples to plug.

Thanks
Scott

Scotty. Ill take pics for you and Pm you them.

Basicly you need to Cap the Wastegate nipple that runs to the WG solenoid. then plug the 1 nipple from the wg solenoid to the rats nest.

After that cap the add the boost controller in line from the Primary turbo to the wastegate... Like i said ill take a few pics for you.

and yes im running 1 boost controller. I left the pill intact for the prespool
