Good point. I was using Protek-R, then bought the stuff it was (someones 2-Cycle oil), and then switched to Royal Purple 2-Cycle oil (synthetic TCW III). But that is just me, so I figure I'll get the best. What it basically boils down to is you'll never know which is truly better, or by how much. Enough experienced Rotary people say use it, so I use it. I buy the logic behind using it.

Otherwise, get the cleanest burning one you can find.

To add to the above post, go by your local small engine shop. They carry numerous 2-cycle engine products that you can buy by the gallon. Just make sure you get the oil kinds and not the 2-cycle additives for those engines.

on my FC I was using any TC-W3 2 cycle oil I could find. At arco I often picked up castrol outboard motor 2-stroke oil.

I use Mobil 1 MX2T 2 cycle premix synthetic oil.

Why?

Mobil oils was tested to be one of the least deposit producing oil when burned. I had the site but lost the link to a test that was done with different oils, and I don't feel like looking for it now The mobil stuff is one of the cleanest burning oils out there. Of course, this is important being that we don't want **** collecting on the apex seals. I've been using the Mobil premix for a few years now.

Mobil says that:
This product is race proven around the world and will provide outstanding lubricity and thermal stability under extreme high-temperature, high-engine speed operating conditions in any 2-cycle, motorcycle engine. Further, Mobil 1 MX2T will help minimize spark plug fouling and exhaust smoke.

We have high heat. We have high RPMs. We have spark plugs. Mobil 1 has always been good stuff, so I said waht the heck lets try it

thanks guys. tcw3 or some mobile 1 sounds good. it's just there are a ton of diff types, just like engine oils i mean you wouldn't put that 89 c a quart oil you find at the gas station in your lawn mower so i had the same concerns about the pre-mix

notice how ghetto it is packaged

also:

"Cameron Worth, President and Racer-Tuner of Pettit Racing and Excellence PerformanceCorp. suggested that I use Valvoline 20-50 Motor Oil in the engine, and add 4 oz. of Protek Fuel Lubricant to each tank of gas (His own private label - I don't know who makes it for him). "

I know it's not in the prettiest package , but nothing here sugests that it's just another brand that's been repackaged... how much cheaper is the other stuff anyways? This product is at least advertised for rotary engines by a rotary company that makes great products... that alone make's it worth the extra $.50 a fill-up to me.

Redline for me

My mechanic is a Redline dealer and I still have the OMP, but I'm not certain that the OMP puts out enough when driven by the PFC (based on some high wear on my new housings from the last motor rebuild). So, I add a few oz's of Redline 2 stroke synthetic racing oil. Smells nice when burned :-)

This topic is easily about 5 yrs. old. Someone who used to work there came on here and revealed that the Protek-R is really a 2 cycle oil Polaris used in Jet Skis etc..

2 to 3 oz's per tank

Figuring that the OMP is still contributing, I'm using 2 to 3 oz's per tank, vs. the full loads being used by many who use pre-mix exclusively as their housing lube. I won't know if this is good or not until this motor goes and I tear it apart. I hope that's about 3 years from now :-)
