Poll: Broken plastic prop rod holder??
It seems like every time I look under the hood of an FD, the plastic prop rod holder is broken. I just don't understand this. We pay lots of money to fix our cars the way we want them, but don't replace a $2 plasic part. What's up with that??
If you have a stock prop rod, and it is supposed to fit in the prop rod holder, please participate in the poll .
BTW, I have purchased several prop rod holders for friends with FD's. They were too lazy to replace them themselves. And yes, I have replaced mine .

I have never had to replace mine. Works great. However, I switched to those pneumatic hood holders as my stock hood prop would no longer clear my ASP medium intercooler duct.
If anyone is interested...they can buy mine!!!

Yeah i never had to replace mine.
Its funny cause whenever i put the rod back in the plastic holder, i press down from the middle of the rod instead of the head which is the correct way to prevent anything from breaking.
I been doing that since i got the car and it never broke on me.

I replaced mine, and made a point to gently push the rod into the holder after the replacement to avoid damaging it again, as well as not yanking it out of the holder when proping the hood open. Yes, heat is part of the problem, but so is abuse. And it's usually the type of person that drops their hood to close it instead of lowering it and then pushing it closed that damages parts like this on their car.
And there are tons of other general care tips that are available as well. Just send me $10 and an email address, and I'll send you the list.

Hooray For Boobies!!!
Its not that I'm too lazy (although I am pretty lazy) its that the broken hood prop holder won't blow my motor so it gets put way down on the list of things to do.

Mine was fine when I bought the car, and still is. I take care when removing and reinstalling the hood prop, though.
BTW, I'm not a fan of the gently close the hood and then push down. IMHO, that just puts pressure on the top of the relatively soft aluminum hood. I drop it just enough to close it. Not to mention pushing it closed just means more fingerprints on my black car .

Just replaced mine. Mazdatrix part number 56-6420-FD01. $3.86 cheapest part I've bought for this car.
I shouldn't laugh - $3.86 for a nub of plastic

Nice to see that there are a few people who admit that they have not replaced the broken prop holder. I suspect that there are many that are not "confident enough in their manliness" to admit it .

Mine doesn't "snap" in anymore, but it sits in it no problem. I would have replaced it already, but it seems like any time I do something nice for my car, she has some major malfunction that saps all of my cash. So, I treat her like the bitch she is, and she loves me for it.

Bought one last year with some other parts purchase. Still not installed, though, so had to vote "too lazy". Very low on my list of improvements/fixes needed, and enough of the old one is still there to keep the rod in place.
