if you are talking about polishing the innlett and exhaust ports, it vill give you better flow=more hp..
the smoother the surfaces are the better flow you`l get...

A shiny example of what not to do to a FD. It's like Catharin Zeta Jones with Mimi's (from the Drew Carey show) makup.

And for the icing on the cake, a type R. Your vtech must be kicking.

on this forum, most members prefer clean tastefully modified cars. the supra wings, altezza lights, stickers, etc are for hondas. the veilside kit you have is fugly, and has been played out since the early 90's. that hood belongs on a camaro along with the rims. you took a beautiful car and destroyed it. and BTW what is a type"r"rx7?

dude you people are being mean and violating him its like telling someone their baby is ugly.

now im not usually mean to people but if someone is gonna brag about "trofies , and magacine artikles on that car then you cold ever dream off..... pånk..."
i know some guy with a shitty wrx whose gotten magazine articles and sponsors he just told them a bunch of mods he didnt have. and really how many articles have you seen where they dont give you any numbers and just speculate as to how much hp and the 1/4 mile had there been good conditions that day and they didnt miss 3rd or wahtever?

and really what the hell is that thing?! its got to be the ugliest thing i've ever seen. looks more like a mitsubishi. usually rice has an attemp to look cool, but this is just not even ricey, its just plain ugly. i woudl not be caught dead in that thing or parked next to it. whats wit hthe random body parts? its even worse than a Mustang GT-R. whats type R supposed to mean? do you have variable apex seal timing? i cannot tell you how many ways and how many times you should blow up and destroy that thing and run over it with an 18 wheeler.

what were you thinking when you spent all that blood and sweat and money on that michael jackson looking thing?

Give the guy a break.

If this Forum was developed specifically for the FD purist, and/or for the sole purpose and use for owner(s) of "unmodified" stock FDs,.....98% of us would be banned from the site.

Yeah, I agree. We build our cars the way we want them. Not everyone has the same taste. I think it looks pretty mean. I don't like red cars, but I don't go around posting negative opinions about every red car I see. It is all about personal preference. Or we can all just run around with plain ole stock red RX-7's.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Unless they ask for your opinion.

Yeah I think it's BS that you guys all gang up on the guy. The guy is a newbie from norway, there style over there is probably a whole lot different than ours you know. He probably doesn't have access to all the parts we have here in the states or doesn't know about them.
if you don't like it be cool about it don't talk crap about the car and tell him it's a POS. He probably came to the forum to meet other FD owners and he probably thinks we are all ******** 'cuse a couple of us are immature.

You guys are all directing your posts torward the wrong person. Shouldnt you be answering the original question, rather then bombing on shifti's car.

ANYWAY, back on topic

Polishing, eh? well if you mean it in the "blingification" of the engine bay, no - it doesn't do anything GOOD at all. In fact, you can argue that it actually does BAD things to the engine.
Think about it...what does the intake manifold and everything look like (and feel like) completely stock? Rough - bumpy, etc...well, all of those bumps increase surface area by many percentages. If you sand away all of those bumps you are reducing the overall surface area of the part by A LOT. A higher surface area allows for more heat dissipation. Lowering that can cause LESS heat to be released, thus harming the overall performance...make sense?

If you mean polishing as in "porting" (ie, streetport, bridgeport, etc...) then YES, it does help increase the performance - quite dramatically sometimes.

While it's true that not everyone has the same taste, there are some general guidelines to good and bad. For instance, most people would agree that a Yugo is NOT a sleak looking vehicle. Some of the comments are a little harsh but it's called life. If you don't want to hear it then don't read it. You take the good with the bad and learn from other people's (and your own mistakes).
Now to answer the original post. If the engine polishing referred to is external then there is NO performance benifit. If it is done to the intake and exhaust passages, it will have a little bit of benifit in improving flow, albeit insignificant, and it is extremely labor intensive to do and requires specialized equipment.
