ok, well it un-fixed itself today after hittin a bump in the road. thing that i dont get is, it revs itself to like 2k all on its own, and its not the aws system cuz it does it even if the car is warm.....not so much the starter, but anyone know why it revs itself up?

What you're experiencing sounds like my problem...but just the reverse. The only way to keep my car running is by keeping the clutch pushed in and keep the key turned on in the run position, which causes the starter to stay engaged and while it is running, it will rev to 2k on its own.

If I let my foot off the clutch or release the key, my car will die. I bought a new ignition switch, but that didn't fix my problem. I thought about a new clutch switch, but from what you have been saying I'm not sure that would fix mine. You may just have to break down and take it to a reputable shop, prferably one that knows RX7's like Pettit.

Yeah no joke! The cheapest I found and spent on my new one was $130...only to find that wasn't the problem.

Your jumping all over the place and talking about replacing parts you dont know are bad why not spend the money to have a good shop diagnose your problem and use some of the money wasted on throwing parts at it to pay them!

If you dont replace the computer and starter related parts as i stated before it may still have a problem. When i looked over the starter circuitry it suprised me there is other things that can cause the starter to fail. But i see your point and agree put in the new stuff and see what happens.

This thread is kinda old but the same thing happened to me going into a driveway I originally thought it was the ignition switch but after a few hours with the front end up in the air i decided to fix a few wires that i knew were chaffed from the big winter tires i had. With the big tires i had to take out my fender liners which exposed the wiring harness it ended up that 3 wired in my L/H wheel well had managed to intermingle with each other and cause the starter to run even with the key in the on position not start. I repaired the wires and wrapped the wire bundle with electricians tape and voila everything works just like new. I hope this will help, for as simple as the wiring of the starter system it seems like a B!tch best of luck to all. Dan. PS. I have a 92 JDM not to sure if the wiring would be diff for a USDM FD.
