plugs fooling, what could be the cause?
Hey guys, i have to change my plugs every 2000 miles, i don't know why but they get fooled very fast. The car start to misfire at higher RPM. When i change the plugs, everything gets back to normal, until 2000 miles later.
what could be causing this?
my related mods are intake, DP and CB. Stock ecu but looks like it is running reaaally rich, don't know why.
anyone has a clue?
thanks a lot

I dont have the answer to your question but my engine seemed to run really rich under normal driving conditions as well with the stock ecu, intake, dp, and catback. I could tell because excess fuel was always exploding out the exhaust. I suppose running rich all the time could foul up your plugs but 2k seems very extreme. Anyway, you will need to upgrade your ecu. Maybe that will help.

ecu should fix the problem... usually it is caused by like you said... richness. I remember when I had full exhaust I would run into fuelcut under higher rpms... is there any one or set (leading & trailing) that seem to be getting the worst of it... maybe you have a bad wire. I say that because from what I ran into today to much fuel can be a big problem...

just wondering but how often do you replace your oil?? or are you running two cycle in your fuel?? I'm saying this because one reason could be oil burning.. are you burning more oil then usual??
its hard to see stock ecu pumping too much fuel.. unless something is being mis read about your engine..
People tend to run leaner with freer flow.. maybe your intake needs to be cleaned.. Its hard to pin point.. Can you post what kind of intake and catback??

i have a brand new hks intake, HKS DP and Apexi Dunk catback.
i change oil every 2000 miles and never put oil between change, it really doesn't consume oil.
i was thinking about a sensor too but what could it be?
how about a clogged cat?
my spark plugs wires are new, they are MSD i beleive.
I will change the plugs, install the PFC and remove the main cat, we'll see what happens after
by the way, my tail pipe has a lot of deposit, which makes me think i am running really rich or that there should be oil consumption but there are none. Maybe i have a magical ECU
thanks

Puma,
Well, Only thing I could think of is that its all happening at idel.. As what I been told.. The O2 sensor is only good for idle.. It measures the o2 level and then corrects the fuel and what else.. But when you are driving.. the O2 really doesn't do anything.. well, that's what I been told so far.. If you are at idle or if you mainly do stop and go.. It might be time to change your o2 sensor..
If your cat is bad.. I think you will get horrible performance.. some said you need aftermarket ECU.. well that's not going to resolve this.. in that aftermarket ECU (unless PFC) like M2, Pettit, or others will make your car run richer.. not leaner.. PFC you will able to run leaner.. but I would only recommend doing that if you are on the dyno with wideband.. which isn't bad idea.. i would pull on wide band and dyno to see if you are running rich or not.. I just can't see stock ecu making you run rich.. just can't be possible... i been told so many times that its a set program for boost, timing, temp, etc... and that O2 sensor do not play any roll in changing the map.. Maybe I was mislead..
Let me know how things works out..
