Angry please tell me it isnt so!

well I just drove home from florida to NC for thanksgiving in my FD with a new motor of 6k miles. all the good stuff from pineapple racing, and I have the pettit ECU to run all the mods I have. well anyways, I was coming home and at about 7k rpms it felt like the car hit a wall. I didnt hear any detonation and I was watching the boost gauge which never went over 12-13 psi.. pettit ECU is good to 14.7 ..... well I noticed I had no power now. I pulled over and check the MAP sensor hose which is ok, and for any leaks.. I even check the plug wires to make sure they were on tight.

it runs and idles but is sooooo sluggish.. the idle is low however and the boost gauge only shows 5 in vacuum as opposed to the normal 10-11 inches I had with the port. it honestly sounds and feels like it is running on one rotor. Im gonna take some **** off of it tomorrow to see if anything became unplugged or something but there are no check engine lights on. god I just hope it didnt blow although I think it did. if it did I am fucked. any insights as to what it could be?

You might just have a bad coil, check for spark on the leading coils. that happened to me last time i thought i had a blown motor.

Dude are you me??

I'm really really sorry to say this but your motor is blown
Everything you described matches what I saw when this happened to my car. all the factors are the same
I have a streetport, pettit unlimited boost ecu, running 13 psi, mine also sounded like it was on 1 rotor,
I even live in florida

I didn't even feel a power loss in mine, hell I didn't even know it happened till the car shut off at the next light. My motor had 4k on it so you beat me at least....

Now help me figure out why this happened, that is the important part and the next step after lots of crying. If you are like me it will take about 2 weeks before you will be normal again.

I hope that it isn't the motor but it prob. is.

this ******* sucks. A LOT

Well, you did get your engine at Pineapple. They do have warrenties! If you determine that it is a blown engine, it will be interesting to see how these Pettit computers are doing?!

vacuum is low, make sure you check the vacuum tank. you prolly know, but it is kinda under the back of the alternator....

does the car die on you?

is the idle rough or just sluggish?

there are a million things that could be wrong, but have a compression check done before you drive it any more. this will be the bast way for you to really KNOW what is going on INSIDE the motor...

good luck. don't fret on the bad too much, trust me i know, it will drive you crazy.....

do you have any fuel mods.....pump injectors? regulator?

:-( Davis, any updates? Maybe a seal is stuck and might unstick. Chad is bringing my car up tonight (late tonight most likely) if you want him to look at it. U still in NC? Call me on my cell if youre gonna be around tonight.

Ps... I can witness for Davis breaking this engine in meticulously and being very wise with his mods. I'm sure Pineapple will make good if it's really blown already...

Take off the UIM and check out your vaccuum lines. Don't rule out any possible situation. ANYTHING is better than a blow engine.

Umm...This kind of sounds like my car. Idles rough when it is cold out or after I ran it hard. The car has only died once on me do to the idle falling off. What could this be? On warm days they idle is about 1k and 16-18 vac, but on cold nights after some driving the idle will fall from 1k down to like 300 and the vac will be about 12.

hey well I guess the forum was down so I havent been able to post... but I have an update.. I checked the vacuum lines and they are fine (all 5 of em cause I am non sequential now) I took out the trailing spark plugs and it seems the front rotor plug was very wet with fuel. that made me think it could have been a coil, but while the plugs were out I had my brother try to crank it over while I put a finger over the plug holes.. there was a strong rush of air from the rear rotor, but barely any from the front one so Im pretty sure it is dead... again.... needless to say I wont be using the pettit ECU with the next motor.. whenever that is. but yes I got the warranty form pineapple.. 5 years, 60k miles.. so unless it is my fault, which I dont think it is because I had everything modded properly and I was watching all the gauges and everything was in limits, it should be covered.. and like jason said, I was very careful breaking in the new motor.

also, I always thought it was usually the rear rotor to go first? but its definetly the front one on mine. this is so ******* frustrating... UGH!

oh yeah, when I would come to a stop the car would not die, but would almost die and would shake pretty bad. idle was pretty low as well at about 400-500 as opposed to the usual 800-1000.. also the vacuum reading was down to 5 inches from 11 or so.

Dude trust me it's your motor

you are describing my car exactly and mine is dead

You have to get a compression test to make sure though, it would be stupid to start pulling out the motor and then find something stupid happened.

Don't blame this on the Pettit ecu
Something else went wrong

All that the pettit ecu does is allow you to go to 14.7 psi without hitting fuel cut instead of 10psi like the stock computer did. It isn't intended to be slapped on and then you assume that you can run 13 psi or more on it. You should always hook up a a wideband o2 and air fuel gauge to your car after every mod to see how you are running.

You've got something wrong with your motor. The poor man's compression test definitely shows that.

You could possibly have a stuck seal though, but with a 6000 mile motor...doubtful.

My car has only died like once or twice. Should I perform the poor mans compression check also? Car is pulling really strong so could it be a blown motor?
