Unhappy Please Help huge coolant leak

Can someone please tell me whats going on, i made mention in a post that i was leaking some coolant, well, i topped it up yesterday, and let the engine idle for about 20 minutes to get the coolant flowing. (genuine mazda coolant)

Well i took the car out to pick up lunch today, everything seemed ok, no check coolant light, no engine overheating, but then, after i had finished and parked my car, i went out around 15 minutes later to see a huge puddle of coolant leaking out from the bottom of the car........... I am taking it to the mechanic during the week, but can someone give me some advice, or their thoughts.

the same thing is happening to be its probeley a one in the coolant tank maybe you hit a dip to start and put a hole in the coolant tank but while the engine was on it was making a vaccum that held the coolant in the tank and when you turned the car off it lost vaccum and it started leaking!

HEns, if you have the capability, put the car up on jack stands and take off the undertray. It is usually pretty easy to diagnose where a major leak is.

You would see the leak pretty quickly, but if you dont have a large jack and some stands there's not a whole lot you can do,

I used to live in Perth; and your actually the first person I've seen on the forum with that local. Very cool

Check, or just replace, your filler neck cap on the water pump housing. If the puddlle is forming in front of the right front tire, it is your coolant overflow bottle venting. It will do this if the filler neck cap will not hold vaccum. I had the same problem when my cap failed to seal. I didn't figure it out until after I had replaced the AST cap, all the AST hoses, and the thermostat.

Don't run the car again until you have diagnised and fixed the leak. If you do you will be risking the engine.

most likely its youre radiator cap , to check it its quite easy ,just take it of,and check the seal under the cap (rubber ) check for de-formation or swelling or if it just doesnt look right , if it doesnt then change it

No, YOU are a tool for not giving him a constructive response. Learn how to create competent sentences before you insult someone by calling them a "tool."

Anyways, you don't even need a jack/stand. Just remove your airbox/crossovertray and you should have a good view of most of the parts of which your coolant leak may be coming from. In my situation, it was the coolant level sensor; I just squeezed the upper coolant hose to displace a little coolant to see where it was coming from. Good luck with that!

Re: Please Help huge coolant leak

Is it leaking from the side of your engine on the passenger side. Look closely and see if you see any trace of the leak.

Lets just hope it's not the water pump housing gasket.
I did mine for $600.00.
it is a 6.5 hours job for a $2.99 gasket.

If it only leaks when you shut the car off after driving it could be your radiator. My stock plastic radiator tanks separated from the rest of the radiator. When I would shut the car off pressure would build in the system and coolant poured out the bottom. When the vehicle was running only a small amount leaked (less pressure). Get underneath the car take off the tray and try to see where it's leaking. It could easily be just the lower rad. hose clamp getting loose.

At worst case its prob the water pump itself. Water pumps are made so that when they start to go out they leak thru a weep hole. My jeep did that last year.
