I've never went through registering a car there, but i have lived there and seen alot of RHD's around. I've discussed registration/inspection with several rhd owners, and not one of them paid $20,000 or $30,000 like that dipshit just said.
I've lived in all the states i mentioned except Ohio, and in two of those i have registered grey market cars (FL, WA)

i just noticed you're in Fairfax county, if you're trying to get inspection for a rhd car there i would go elsewhere. i had some problems here in wpb even..

buttersrx7 - and neither time did i pay $20,000-$30,000...GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! or better yet, get a rhd car before you're the self proclaimed expert on the registration/inspection costs

Can you share what you learned from these discussions? The best I found on the net re: the grey market cars was this: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...v21/ai_3756928 and it seemed like they were just covering high-end cars through businesses much like Motorex.

i just noticed you're in Fairfax county, if you're trying to get inspection for a rhd car there i would go elsewhere. i had some problems here in wpb even..
Yea, passing inspection w/ LEGAL US cars here is a challenge lol. But needless to say, there are ways around it. Hence why you peaked my interest.

OH, FL, SC, VA, WA are some of the easiest states to resister grey market cars, why the **** do you think they're are so many in these states?

I'm not 100% on what you mean by "grey market", but I had a HELL of a time registering my FD which had a salvage certificate.... NO ONE would co-operate, they all kepy pointing fingers to someone else... I called everyone from the police office, to the damn DMV..... And finally with absolutely no problem, my mom went to the county over, (North Augusta), and just registered it??? WTF? It's not easy, I just "got lucky, and it all worked out in the end( ) " But if you get someone that knows (or acctually doesn't know...), you will have a VERY VERYYYYYY hard time in SC. My car's salvage certificate came from Kansas... and the bitch at the DMV had the ***** to tell me that I had to go back to Kansas and have it inspected/titled before I could bring it to SC.... Damn well knowing you would have to be a resident! I called everyone, and apparently she burnt most every ****** bridge I had, because she called the state level vehicle inspector, the Columbia DMV office, and EVERY other person that I talked to.... BITCH!

But my mom goes one county over, and some dumb bastard just punchs it in, and registers it?

Good luck with your SC bull-****... I promise if it does happen, it won't be worth it!

It's so much easier to shift in a RHD car. You just cup your hand around the shifter...

i've got pics. and i'm not gonna catch hell from anybody about buying the car. the hell i would catch would have something to do with the registration of it. I'd prolly catch less slack if i picked up a US spec one. anyway...i'll post the pics when i get to my computer later today.

The damn thing came in on a container so the body is all scratched up...so it's going into the bodyshop next wednesday cause i'll be in arizona for a week over the 4th of july. Also, the front bumper is MIA, so i had to order a 99 spec bumper which will be painted and put on next week as well. i also went ahead and picked up another clip so i would have an extra engine and all the parts i needed to do the 5speed swap.

he might be refering to the fact that you bring the shifter towards you with the cup of your hand as opposed to pushing it away from you. i dunno though....just a thought.

So have you gotten that Magical SC Title yet?

GOOD ******* LUCK!!! I just went to the DMV to pick up my cars title, and found out, because it was a salvage that they revoked my title, and plates! I HATE THIS ******* STATE!!!! They tell me that I have to go back to Kansas were the car was given the Salvage title, and have it inspected, and given a new title.... but you can't do that in Kansas UNLESS... YOU LIVE IN ******* KANSAS!!!! AHHHHHHHHH...... **** South Carolina!

If you do manage to get a title, tell me how you did it, or how are you planning on doing it.... because I really need to get one.

Cory, call the Kansas DMV, explain to them the situation, see what they can offer. If they offer you NO resolution whatsoever, call a supervisor, and have him conference in a DMV agent from SC. All three of you talk it out. There ARE ways to title a car that "doesn't have a valid title." It's expensive, but doable. Don't take a run-around. Ask for supervisors until you get what you need.
